Dining Room Upsized

Normally when you see my dining room, this is how you see it.

A round table, with 4 chairs.  That is because our dining room is small.  But when we have more than two guests over for dinner, we need more table space.

Last night, we had friends over for dinner.  So we added the leaf to the table.

I love having a larger table, because I get to use my linen country French runner.  We do have to angle the able, otherwise no one would be able to sit on one side, because the bakers rack would be in the way.

We have more guests coming next Saturday, so we are leaving the leaf in the table for the week, and I get to enjoy the runner for a whole week :-).

  2. That's a good solution, Penny. How big is the dining room? We're looking at a house with a smaller room than we have now and wondering how it might work out. I'm much better with visuals than with the actual measurements, so it would be good to know what I'm looking at in your dining room. Thanks!

  3. I don't have a large dining room either. I think yours is probably even bigger than mine! I guess it's a good thing we don't use it often. LOL. Using a leaf in your table is a great idea and I like that you angled it for better traffic flow.

  7. I really like the table angled like that. A decorator recommended we do something similar in our tiny den once and it made all the difference in the world in how the room functioned.

  8. I always keep my farm style dining room table at an angle - it's one size, no leaf to add - and can seat six like yours does when you add the leaf. My room is smaller than yours Penny but feels large with the table angled and makes it easier to get around it. If you decide to leave your leaf in I think you may enjoy your space even more., and perhaps have additional fun with more tabletop decor. At least you don't, as I do, have to use it as your office, haha!

Enjoy the day…….overcast and quite cold again here. Painter coming tomorrow!

    Hugs - Mary

  9. This looks very pretty! It feels like you have a whole new room when you change just one thing. We once took out the leaves of our dining room table at the lake and I was in awe of all the space we had! :)

  11. I like the leaf in there too. Often when we go to show homes or builder's decorated homes, we see the table turned that way. It's very pretty.

  19. Your table runner is very pretty Penny! I am fortunate as my dining room leads into my living room, so we have room to expand even with two leafs in my table. It's the same situation in my kitchen , as my kitchen leads into my family room, and if need be, we can have a very long table in the middle.

  20. Isn't it great when you can enjoy something you really love? What a lovely table runner.
Our table expands, too, and is so handy when we have more than 6 people to seat.

  21. I like how you angled the table, Penny. That is what we would need to do in our dining room if we had an oval or rectangular table.

  26. I love it like this, Penny! I wish my round table had a leaf to extend it when needed, but I think it was mainly meant to be a kitchen table. Luckily, we don't have people eat over very often. : )

  27. We usually have to angle the table like that for Thanksgiving. It's amazing how much elbow room that gives. The more the merrier!
