Ice Ice Baby

We had an ice storm here today.  Luckily we did not lose power, though several 100 people in our county did, due to downed power lines.

It was very pretty, but eerie.  I took these pictures standing on my front porch.

But, by the end of the day, this is what it looked like at 6:30PM.  The ice has melted.

How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

  2. Ice is so beautiful and so dangerous. Glad that you had your power throughout. We're expecting a messy mixture tonight and tomorrow.

  3. The trees do look eerie but beautiful. We are having icey rain and snow here in Chicago.

  4. Oh man, that ice looks cold. Brrr! It was a beautiful day here but cool and windy.

  5. The tree in that first picture looked beautiful Penny! We're suppose to get a wintery mix over night...I'm hoping for a 2 hour delay in the morning:)

  6. We get a lot of snow but not too many ice storms here. Growing up in PA we had terrible ice storms. Your pictures are gorgeous- xo Diana

  7. We started getting it about 2:30 this afternoon, here in MI. Started out with tiny bits of hail/freezing rain, now we have a couple inches of snow on the ground. More expected by morning! So ready for Spring!!

  8. Your pictures are all so pretty! It's like a winter wonderland there. We got a lot of rain and wind today, but no snow or ice. Hope you stayed in where it was warm today.

  9. Penny, your photos are magical. We've had grey weather most of the winter and I hoped for a snow day(just one), but alas, no snow. Now I'm ready for spring!

  10. Beautiful pictures Penny. Wonder how Lake Lure is fairing. It is beautiful in Florida with temps in the 80's. I'm not trying to make you jealous I promise. I love your fabric choices by the way.

  11. Ice looks so pretty but so cold. We are having sun but cool temps. We really need rain though.

  12. Hi Penny, How pretty and lace like. We had frost this morning but nothing like yours. It was on the deck and ground. It is a stunning photo op. Smile. We are looking at light snow the next three days. I am sure it will melt before building up at all.

I went to the site you gave me and I see how it can be done. Our property angle is severe and it would be way above Bills carpentry ability to do this. (meaning no ability) HA! I'm afraid hiring someone would make the cost out of sight. We will continue to grow veggies on the deck in front of our cabin. It works for us this way.

  13. We thought we were done with the snow till Thursday, but part of the state, including us, had more last night. You couldn't leave Colorado going north or east. It's so white out right now it glares in the windows. Will probably "escape" the house today before it hits tomorrow.

  14. Ice storms are always so beautiful and so treacherous, too. Loved seeing your photos Penny.

Once again, it is snowing in northeast Missouri. We still have snow from the big storm last week. Not as bad as the Kansas City area though.

  15. Your photos are beautiful, Penny. Those trees look like they are sprinkled with glitter. Glad to hear the ice didn't last too long.

Around here, no snow at all this year. Sunshine just now, but lots of clouds and the forecast is for occasional showers. Pretty typical.

  16. Ice storms can be pretty nasty, but it's hard tohate them when the suyn comes up and everything turns to diamonds:>) We got a lot of very wet snow which seems to be melting nicely now. I had a bear of a drive to work this morning (slid through an intersection! fortunately it was 530a so no traffic), and we lost a huge branch on one of our evergreens.
Thank goodness you didn't lose power, that is the worst~!

  17. Our weather?

Wet. Cloudy. Grey. The moss is growing beautifully though.

I guess there's a reason Washington is known as the Evergreen State and Seattle as the Emerald City!

  21. The ice lining the tree branches looks beautiful, but I know how damaging it can be. Here in northern IL, we've had a lot of snow the past couple of days. I'm longing for spring!

  22. A little warmer but we still have 6 inches of snow on the ground! Spring where are you? Mimi

  23. It sure did look both beautiful and eerie at the same time. Mother nature is something else.

  25. Gorgeous photos, and that last one was a Wow. I love the way the ice looks when it's on the trees. Here we always have to worry about power outages.

  26. Hi Penny,
Thanks so much for your visit today.

Ice storms do make things beautiful and are so much nicer if you don't have to be out and about in them.
Your last photo is so pretty with the mountains in the background.

  27. Beautiful photos! Ice storms are a strange thing. We're due for more winter weather this coming week, I believe. And I just want it to be spring!

  29. Ice storms are pretty but dangerous. So glad to hear you still have your power.

Have a lovely weekend. It’s nice to be able to get out and visit old friends again.

  30. Loved your photos of the ice! Beautiful when you don't have to walk or drive in it. We are having a combination of sun and gray skies with some rain added in. Earlier this week we took my dear, little mother to the Oregon Coast - a gift from her family for her ninetieth birthday. I shared a bit about it - and the weather - and a few photos on my blog. We loved it. We had every kind of weather we had hoped for.
