Guest Bedroom Not Quite There Yet

So, I promised you at the end of last week to show you my guest bedroom "after" picture today.

The guest that I had visit this past weekend was one of my sons.  I did get the room picked up, but not "decorated".

Here is how it looks at this stage of the decorating.

No paintings, no wall art.

The red hutch has to go.  I wanted to use it for the little guest TV, but you can't see the TV from the bed, so I need to find something different there.

See the closet doors, above?  They were also mirrored doors when we bought the house.

I have red toile curtains from my previous homes, but these windows are taller and the curtains are too short.  You can see them on the trunk folded at the end of the bed.  I am trying to decide if I want to add a checked piece of fabric to the toile curtains, or just get some new curtains.  Another thought would be to totally start fresh in this room and replace the red toile comforter with something else.  I would still have to make or get new curtains though.

I have a lot of ideas for this room, but it will all take time.  As I work on each idea/project I will post about it.

Up next.  I am sewing valances for my kitchen windows this week, and then I will do a kitchen reveal.

Have a great week!

Well, Penny, I'm sure your son's friend felt very much at home as the bedroom looks nice already. I love your reds and toile and think the red checks would be cute added to your curtains. Anything you do always turns out mot gorgeously! :)
I'm enjoying your redoing very much.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

Your son probably didn't mind that the room wasn't fully decorated - it's always nice to come to Mom's house.
The red toile is so pretty. Will look forward to seeing what you've done with the room.

I'm sure your son didn't mind the fact that wall art was missing - I know that's not what he came to see! Whatever you decide to do will be wonderful. I like the idea of adding checks to the toile but I know sometimes it's just time to change things up. Can't wait to see your kitchen. We're working on house projects around here. It's a lot of work but makes such a big difference.

Love your red quilt. Is the color of the room a buttery yellow. I wasn't sure if it is or is it a beige? I love it. It's so cheerful.

And here I was thinking, "Oh good, she's going to do the red and white toile in this room!". : ) I'm sure whatever way you decide to go will look just lovely. I'm finding that now we've been in our place over a year now, I am rethinking a couple of rooms. Window treatments at least. Luckily, it is two rooms where if I spent any money on window treatments it was very minimal, so I don't feel guilty thinking about changing them now. Can't wait to see your kitchen valance. I wish I had a kitchen window to even make a valance for!

I'm sure you're having fun, but working hard. Decorating is so much fun, that when you are done, you feel let down. At least I do. Fortunately, if you play it right, you are never done. Hee hee. Thanks for the comment on my cake photo. You inspired me to submit it to FG and it was accepted! It won't be long until we are back in NC Looking forward to seeing you. Hugs, Penny

Penny you are way ahead of me even if your guest room is undecorated! My guest room is empty. I always look at your blog for inspiration as you are a wonderful decorator.

I love the red hutch --I'm sure you can use it in another room? If not, send it to me please? :)

Penny, I had the same dilemma with drapes that were too short. They matched a love seat a friend gave me, so I really wanted to use them. So, I made a stationery valance with horizontal folds by sewing rings vertically on each side of the drape and running cording through the rings. I had wood blinds in the windows, so privacy wasn't an issue. Here's a photo if you would like to see...

Good morning Penny. There is a vast improvement from the last pic we saw. HA! It is already charming and I think I would add to the existing curtains because they are perfect with you bed coverings. Lovely already.

Such a pretty room! No matter what you choose, you just can't go wrong. I always loved those wonderful lamps. Could you angle that darling hutch so that the TV could be seen? Well if you don't like it just send it on over :) It's all just yummy!

Penny, you are such an amazing decorator. I wish I had your talents! I love the red and would be inclined to add red check to the toile curtains, but I trust your judgment before my own and will love to see what solution you come up with!

Hi Penny,
You have all the make'n's of the perfect guest room. You always decorate your guest room so beautifully. When we moved into our new/used home (coming up on 3yrs) time really flies, anyway I had to start over with window coverings too. Nothing worked, but its fun to re-create and re-style a room. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Have a sweet valentine week with your valentine..sending you a big hug, Elizabeth

Love the touches of red in this room. Too bad the hutch didn't work. Where will you put it? What a beautiful piece.
