French Country Living Room Before and After

Our living room is 90% completed!  The painting is done.  A few new pieces of furniture have been bought.  A painting has been hung.  We still have to add curtains.  We still need to hang more art.  But it is starting to feel like home!

Here is what our living room looks like today.

The picture below is a before shot.

The carpet was removed and hardwood floors were installed.  The walls were a dirty beige and are now painted a sunny Belgian Waffle from Olympic Paints.

Remember the niches?  I blogged about what to do with them, here.

Here is what they looked like before.

Here is what I ended up with.

A close up.

I placed a French countryside oil painting in the center, then added a plant, pheasant and some antique leather bound books on the shelf.

I like the way things are shaping up.  So far I have painted the dining room (which I showed you a few weeks back), the hallway, the guest bathroom, the den/library and my office.  I am currently painting the kitchen.

None of the rooms have been decorated.  No pictures hung etc.  That will come soon.  When I get each room a little more complete I will share them with you.

Thanks for coming on my house whispering adventure with me!
edited to add:  Maryaguer mentioned my lamp cords stretching across the floor.  We are going to install floor outlets, like we had in our previous home.  We had to wait to get the furniture layout right before we cut into the wood floors :-).  That will be coming soon.  As with any home remodeling project....one step at a time.

Looks fabulous Penny and I agree with Debbie's comment above - warm and inviting. Love the color of your walls too and the bold white molding really stands out. I would love to know the name of the wall color. I have something similar, but it was a custom mix to match cabinets, so it doesn't really have a name.

I remember the print chair that look so comfortable in the foreground from your other house. Can't wait to see what you put on the windows. If you have a lot of privacy, maybe nothing...

Good morning, Penny,
I have so enjoyed your blog since i found it a couple of years ago!

Your new home is looking beautiful!
I noticed in your after picture of your new living room that it seems
you don't have electrical outlets on your floor where you can plug in your lamp and, like me, it seems you have a lamp cord going all the way to the wall, which I worry about someone tripping on it and falling.

Just wondering if you know if there are such things as "battery operated" lamps for areas such as these? But, I imagine, if you did, you'd probably have them :)?

This situation is a constant worry with me. If you hear of such lamps, please pass the word along.

Thanks and keep up the good work, I look forward to your posts. Love your decorating style!

Fabulous! Every bit as lovely as I expected. It is no doubt wonderful to now have a nearly complete oasis to escape to when the other rooms are still in progress. I'm in the process of looking for some rugs for our new wood floors, did you find yours online or locally? Any suggestions for the best places to look?

It looks so good!! The paint color you used reminds me of your last home. I know it must feel good to see the progress so far.

Oh my gosh, that is my dream to pull up all my nasty carpet! Our house is 6 years old, but I am hating my carpet! It looks fantastic. I am glad you did not go dark. They show everything.

Okay, one of my New Years resolutions is taking the time to leave more notes for my blogging friends! I always read posts in a reader and it makes it hard to leave a comment or two. But I do not miss a post! Love seeing the things you share and your lovely home. I wish I had more time to blog, but I work part time at our local library. I wanted to share with you my new blog, just opened this week.... http://www.brookekroeger.blogspot.com.... it will be for my vingage and digital work... including printables you might enjoy. I also have my home and garden site, http://www.creativecountrymom.blogspot.com. This week I am doing a look back to my spring garden.

Hope to be able to connect more in this new year. I am spending less time on Facebook and gave up twitter and everything else. A girl needs time to create, decorate and GARDEN ya know!

God bless....Brooke

someone noticed a cord on the floor?? wow! :) The room is beautiful Penny! I think niches are so charming but hard to decorate but a great way to showcase something special. I am working hard on having a bit of breakfast everyday. But I have this strange phenomenon that happens. When I eat breakfast, then I am hungry all day long. If I don't eat breakfast, then I never get hungry. hmmm?? :) Have a wonderful weekend.
