My Word For 2013

Boy, 2012 was quite a year for me.  We sold our home in January, moved into a rental home, bought a new home in November and are still painting and unpacking!  Whew!

In the midst of all of the painting (which can be very meditative, by the way) I have been thinking about what I would like the coming year to be.

It seems like I rush through every moment, day, week.  I rush so much that I do not take time out to enjoy the moment.  I am always thinking about what is next....not what I am currently doing.

So my word for 2013 is JOY.  I am going to focus enjoying being in the moment.

It has been a blast reading all of your blog posts this past year and I have enjoyed the comments you have left for me on my posts.  I am looking forward to sharing my new home with you in the coming year.

So here is to 2013.  May it bring you much joy.

Beurre

Beurre....

No, I didn't mean to say brrrrrr as in very cold, though it has been very cold here in NC.  Yesterday was in the 30's but we had wind gusts of up to 70 MPH so it felt a lot colder.  Today it is in the mid 40's.

See my new butter bell?  The cute polka dot spreader came with it.  The other side says "butter".   It looks so cute on my wine barrel lazy Susan.   It comes black or blue too.  Here is a link to the website I purchased it from, in case you want one too ;-).

I finished painting the guest bathroom.  Now I need to put it back together.  This weekend I hope to start on painting the kitchen after Mr. Comforts gets the lights hung.  The ceiling has been repaired and looks wonderful.

I thought that I would wait until after the first of the year to start showing pictures of what I am doing to the house.  Even though some rooms are painted, pictures are not up, decorative items are still in boxes.  Plus, I know you all are busy visiting with friends etc for the holidays.  So if you come back and visit in a few days,  I will start posting some new home pictures.

Good Morning!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

I thought I was going to be painting the guest bathroom today, but the plans have changed a little.  The other day, Mr Comforts was removing two florescent light boxes from the kitchen ceiling and he found that they were puttied onto the drywall.  Even after using a utility knife along the edges, when removing it, some of the  drywall paper was torn.  There also are large holes where molly bolts were used to attach the fixtures.

Normally, Mr. Comforts or myself would patch the drywall.  But we are blessed with smooth ceilings.  They are hard to come by.  No pop corn, no skim coat, but actual beautiful smooth ceilings.

If we didn't get the drywall mud sanded completely smooth, it would be very noticeable.  So, today an expert is coming to repair the drywall. Then I can paint the ceiling.  Mr Comforts will be able to install the new lights (notice there was no light box in the precious picture either.  He had to go into the attic to install them, below.)

The other evening we had the most beautiful sunset.  I took some pictures of it for you.

One Down, 9 To Go!

I finished painting the dining room.  Yeah!  Here is what it looks like today.  Just a note to say that my good camera is packed in a box somewhere (I can't find it) so this was taken with my point and shoot.

Just a reminder, below of how it looked the day we bought the house.  The walls were salmon, and there was stained white carpet on the floor.

We used our same French country dining furniture from our previous home.  The walls are actually painted the same color too.  It is Belgian Waffle by Olympic Paints from Lowe's.  We really loved that color in our previous home and knew it would work wonderful in our new home too.  I still have more pictures to hang in the dining room. That will happen when the rest of the house is painted and we figure out where all of the pictures are going.

A few post back, I mentioned changing out the chandelier and showed you some inspiration pictures, here.

Here is a close up of the one we ended up buying.

We actually bought another one just like it to hang in our foyer.  When we get that painted and have a chance to hang it, I will do a post.

I bought some flowers today for this post.  I think they look a little French Country/Tuscan Christmas like.....

I still need to get or make curtains for the dining room, but that will be another post down the line when time and money allow.

Today, we actually have professional painters coming to paint the ceilings in the living room, den, master bedroom, hall, guest bedroom, guest bath and the walls of the TALL living room, foyer and stairway to the bonus room.  They are too tall for me to paint safely.  The painters will take until about Thursday to finish.  Then I will paint the walls of the hallway, master bedroom, master bath, den, guest room and guest bath.  Sounds like I am going to be busy into the New Year, doesn't it?

From Where I Sit

Just a short post to show you a picture I took this morning out of my window, sitting at my computer reading your blogs.

I will be finished painting the dining room today, and will be able to push the hutch back against the wall and start unpacking the boxes full of china.  Mr. Comforts is hopefully going to put up our new chandelier in the dining room this weekend.  So hopefully I will have a reveal to show you on Monday!

Deck The Halls?

While you all are decking the halls....I am painting the walls.  Today I painted the walls in the hall between the kitchen and dining room.  I have a big piece of furniture that has to be moved there, so that is where I started the painting.  Tomorrow I am painting the dining room. 

Here is a sneak peak of the "lounge" area of our kitchen.  Our mover bought me the poinsettia.  Wasn't that sweet of him?

The settee in the background is new.  Of course, the walls have not been painted in the kitchen.  And I will be hanging curtains etc down the road.  Once that area has been painted, I will reveal the whole lounge area.
