From Stained Carpet To Beautiful Hardwood

The stained, worn cream colored carpet has been removed and the new hardwood floors have been laid.

The installers had to weave the new hardwood into the existing hard wood in some areas.  Then the existing and new wood had to be sanded and 3 coats of polyurethane had to be applied.

Here is what the new floors look like now.

Here it was before, with the carpet.

Another after shot, taken from the living room looking into the foyer.

Same shot before with the old carpet.

The den and sun room now with the wood floors.

The den and sun room floors before with carpet and tile.

The dining room now with wood floors.

The dining room before with carpet.
I can already hear the house breathing easier...It had been left empty for two years.  I have been house whispering and the house is telling me that it loves it's new floors :-).

As I mentioned before, there is not enough time to get the house painted before we move in, but you can see some patching has been done to the walls in preparation for painting.

Today I will be at the new house cleaning from top to bottom.  Tuesday, Direct TV will be install the dish.  Friday, carpet cleaners will come and clean the bedroom carpets (they were still in good shape, and I do enjoy carpet in the bedroom).

We move one week from today.  I am taking the next several days off from blogging.  I will post after we get moved.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!

Dreaming Of A Soothing Bedroom

In my last house, my bedroom was shades of yellow, red and white.    Here it is, in the picture below.

After we moved into this rental we are in, we bought a king size bed and a new linen covered headboard.  The queen size comforter no longer fits our new bed.

This created the perfect opportunity to change color schemes in the master bedroom when we move into our new house.  I have been thinking about doing soothing shades of blue this time.  I really like the picture below that I found on Houzz.

I love the different shades of blues.

What color is your bedroom?  Would you change it if you could?

I Was Featured on Freshome!

Kim, from Savvy Southern Style emailed me the other day and mentioned she saw one of my blog photos on Freshome.

It was a photo taken in my previous home of the botanical and bird prints I had place around my flat screen TV in this post.

The cool thing is that the title to the post was called, "10 Daring Decorating Trends Interior Designers Love."

To see the feature article, click on the Freshome link above.  Thanks Freshome!

And yes, I still have these prints and they will be hung in my new home.  Maybe around the TV again...maybe not.  It will fun figuring that out.

Front Porch

Our new home has a wonderful front porch.  It goes all the way across....just like our last home's front porch.  The trouble is, I sold all of the wicker furniture that we had on our last front porch at a garage sale before we moved, because we were thinking about buying a condo...I we really would :-).

Front Porch of New Home

So now I am dreaming about what I can do to replace the wicker I sold.  Do I get more wicker and paint it black?

Do I go with iron?
Go with a natural wicker?

I am not sure which direction I will go, but I do know that I will probably wait until next spring to worry about it.  Right now I am concentrating on getting into the house and getting settled before Christmas :-).

Thanks for hanging around and house whispering with me!  I promise to bring you along every step of the way.

French Chandeliers

We are replacing the chandeliers that are in the house we just bought.  They are nice chandeliers, just not our style.  I will be taking the chandeliers to a consignment shop.  Here is the one currently in our dining room.  Keep in mind that I am painting the walls a different color, too.

I decorate in the French Country style.  I have been looking on  for some ideas and here are a few I found.  I didn't realize how many different styles of French Country chandeliers there were!
We are moving forward - no pun intended - on our move.  The flooring that was ordered is now in, and after it is delivered to our house it has to acclimate for 72 hours before they can start laying it.    We are not going to be able to get the house painted before we move in due to time constraints, so we will just deal with that after we move.  Got to go with the flow, right?

I am packing still, and the move in date is still set for Nov. 26th.  I can't wait to get in there and start house whispering!  I am looking forward to showing you real pictures of my home and not just inspiration photos!

Niches or Nooks

Let's talk niches or nooks.  Do you have any in your house?  We have two in our new home.  One on either side of the foyer.  Sorry for the bad picture.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with these.  I did some searching through some of my French Country decorating books and magazines, as well as on the  I found some of the different ways they are treated.
I think I am going to like having a couple of niches to play with.

We spent the weekend meeting with flooring and painting contractors.  We are taking up the carpet in the dining room, den, great room and hallway in our new home and having hardwood laid to match the existing hardwood in the kitchen and foyer.

We are also having someone paint the foyer, great room and stairway to the bonus room, because the ceilings are too high for me to reach.  I will be painting the rest of the rooms.

Well, back to packing!

November Happenings

“Fallen leaves lying on the grass in the November sun bring more happiness than the daffodils”

Cyril Connolly

I took the picture above, from my front deck this morning.  It is a beautiful, cold November day.

Here is what's happening in my world for the month of November.

We closed on our new home today!  So for the next 26 days I will be packing, meeting contractors for quotes on hardwood flooring and painting and planning a very small Thanksgiving dinner.  Oh!  And my birthday is this month.  It actually falls on Thanksgiving!  Then on the 26th, we will move.

So this month is going to be a very busy, fun filled month!
Happy November!!
