Some Inside Shots

While I am waiting for the appraisal on the house, I thought I would show you some inside pictures.

Keep in mind that this house was "staged".  No one has lived in it for two years.

The foyer.  I love it because it is wide and very bright with the dormer window and all of the sidelights on the door.

If you remember my last house - it had a den to the left and a dining room to the right off of the foyer.

This house is very similar, except the den is to the right (picture of den below)...see the doorway on the right in the picture below?  That is a sun room and will be my office.  I will show you more of it a few pictures down.

Here is another shot of the den at a little different angle.  It has two entries.  One from the foyer and one from the hallway that leads to the guest bedroom.

Here are a few shots of the sun room, that will be my office.

The view from "my office" window.

The dining room is to the left when you walk in the door.

This is the view of the dining room from the hallway off of the kitchen.

Looking at the living room, from the foyer.  The French doors lead to the back patio.

A shot at the living room, standing in the kitchen.

Another shot of the living room, standing next to the fireplace.

The kitchen, looking towards the eat-in area of the kitchen.  Remember in this post, how I told you that I would like to make that area of a kitchen, more of a lounge area. I think this is a perfect spot for that.

Another set of French doors, off the "lounge" area.

The other end of the kitchen.

The guest room.

The bonus room upstairs.  This room has two dormers.

It will be Mr. Comforts office.  He is an engineer and works out of our home.

And finally, the master bedroom.

Once we close on the house and start house whispering, I will show you more photos.  If all goes well, we are suppose to close near the end of November.

Which House Did We Pick?

You really don't think I would buy a condo?

After being my blog friend for years and years, you think you know me that well?

You do :-).

We did not buy the condo.  Though it was beautiful, and had great amenities, we just could not wrap our heads around not having some sort of yard/garden.

The house we made the offer on was house number 3.  Your guesses were pretty even between 2 and 3.  27 of you picked 2 and 35 picked house number 3.  No one picked the condo.

So here is where we are.  The sellers have graciously agreed to take care of some issues.  We are waiting on the bank appraisal.  In the mean time would you like to see more pictures of the house we chose?  Today, the outside.  Next post inside pictures.

The house has a steep front yard, but it has some ground cover and we will plant more ground cover and that will take care of that.  It has light gray hardiplank siding with white and dark gray trim.  I think we will change out the dark gray trim to all white trim.

As you can see, it has a great front porch.  The following pictures are the view you see standing on the front porch.

Mountain view to the left.

Lake view to the right.

Closer picture of the lake view below.

View looking a little towards the right with mountains in the distance.  It was a hazy day when I took this last photo.

The back is small, but I think a good size for us now.  We will add a pergola like we did at our last home, on a smaller scale.

There is a small patio off the great room with French doors.  It has a fire pit.  I think we will be removing that and putting a fireplace in it's place.

Here is a view of the back yard from the opposite direction.

It has a lot of landscaping in place that just needs a little trimming.  Plus we will add more when we get settled in.  I have hydrangeas!!

The walkway from the driveway.

The pretty stone retaining wall.  The base of the house is stone too.

Here are the stats on the house.  It is a 2 bedroom plus den, 2 bath home.  It has a bonus room upstairs.  It is about 2300 square feet.  That is about 1300 square feet smaller than the home we just sold.  It is a perfect size for the two of us.

Keep your fingers crossed on the bank appraisal.  I will show you inside pictures in the next post.   Thanks for house hunting with me!!

Do You Watch House Hunters on HGTV?

Do you watch the HGTV show, House Hunters?  Do you try to figure out which of the three houses the buyers are going to pick, before it is announced?

While watching the show, you hear what they are looking for, what they might have to compromise on, what each house has or doesn't have.

I have gotten pretty good at guessing which one they will pick, but I have been surprised a few times.

So, while I am waiting to hear from the sellers of the house we picked, to see if they will make some repairs or not, I thought we could play House Hunters.  I will show you three of the houses that we have seen.  One of them is the house we made the offer on.  I will tell you the pros and cons of each one and show you a couple of inside photos too.  Can you guess which one is the house we picked?

House One
350 East Allen, Unit 207, Hendersonville, NC.

House one is a condo that is downtown.  The pros yard work or outside maintenance, you can walk to downtown shops and restaurants, brand new.   The cons place for a garden, lack of privacy.

House Two
House number two is about 10 minutes to downtown in a golf course community.  The pros are....light and bright, two master suites, great living room with soaring ceilings and rock fireplace.  The cons are, no formal dining room, though there is an informal dining area off the kitchen, small back yard.

House Three

House number three is about 5 minutes to downtown in a gated mountain community.  The pros....light and bright, fireplace in great room, formal dining room and nice sized master bedroom.  The cons...sloping front yard, carpet needs to be replaced with hardwood, small back yard.

So which one do you think we picked?  I promise to let you know which house we picked in my next post and whether or not we are able to proceed with the sale.

French Chair Makeover

Last October while out antiquing with Penny from Lake Lure Cottage Kitchen, I bought a French style chair and foot stool that needed a makeover.  Here are some BEFORE pictures taken in my old studio.
It has great bones and wonderful detail.

But the wood color and fabric had to go!  So I started removing the fabric.  The problem came, when I could not remove the staples.  Even with my special upholsterer's staple remover.

So, I set it aside to think about it.  Then the holidays came and went.  We put our house on the market and it sold.  Then we moved.  Fast forward 11 months it is sitting in the same sorry state in the basement of our rental home.

I decided to start working on it again this week.  It will make a perfect chair for the master bedroom of the house we are trying to buy.

I painted it with chalk paint in Old White.  Next I will distress it a little and wax it.  Then I am going to send it to an upholsterer to finish, because I am sure they will be able to get the staples out!  I am thinking a French linen for the fabric.

I plan on sending it to the upholsterer right before we move, and I will pick it up after we move.  So when it is finished, it will move straight into our new home and I will show it to you then.

Speaking of the new home.  We had the inspection done yesterday and there were some issues - there usually are.  So we are going to discuss them with the seller sometime next week, after we get the official written report.

House Hunting...continues

Here are a few more of the homes I have seen over the last few weeks....

All of these photos were taken from the MLS.

So, I am not going to tell you about any of them.  I am a tease, I know :-).

I will let you know we have made an offer on a house.  It was accepted and we are going through the inspection and appraisal phase right now.  As soon as those are finished and all goes well, I will let you know which house out of all that I have shown you over the past few weeks, that we picked.

So Where Was It? And The Winner

Well, that was a close one!  26 of you guessed the first picture was taken in the US and 22 of you guessed the first picture was taken in France.

So where was the first picture?  The first picture was taken in Waynesville, NC at Pheasant Hill Design.  It is a great store with antiques, home decor and a little cafe!  The picture was taken August 2011.  Here is another picture inside Pheasant Hill Design.

The second picture was taken on my trip to France a few years ago.

I used Random Generator to pick the winner of the giveaway.  The winner is:

Number 4! Sarah from Hyacinths for the Soul  Congrats!  I will be emailing you.  You get to choose between a few French decorating books as your giveaway!

Thank you everyone for playing along (even Jenny, who said she did not like this game, but would play because there was a giveaway;-)).
