This n That

Good Morning!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

I thought I was going to be painting the guest bathroom today, but the plans have changed a little.  The other day, Mr Comforts was removing two florescent light boxes from the kitchen ceiling and he found that they were puttied onto the drywall.  Even after using a utility knife along the edges, when removing it, some of the  drywall paper was torn.  There also are large holes where molly bolts were used to attach the fixtures.

Normally, Mr. Comforts or myself would patch the drywall.  But we are blessed with smooth ceilings.  They are hard to come by.  No pop corn, no skim coat, but actual beautiful smooth ceilings.

If we didn't get the drywall mud sanded completely smooth, it would be very noticeable.  So, today an expert is coming to repair the drywall. Then I can paint the ceiling.  Mr Comforts will be able to install the new lights (notice there was no light box in the precious picture either.  He had to go into the attic to install them, below.)

The other evening we had the most beautiful sunset.  I took some pictures of it for you.

And finally, here is a little snippet of our living room, so far.  I will show you more in the next couple of days.

Have a great day!

  3. You have a front row seat to the most amazing views! We never know what we'll find when we buy homes that are less than brand new. Can't wait to see more!

  4. You have already put your touches upon the place, I can clearly tell. Oh that is something about your ceiling...glad that your hubby knows how to do a lot and, when it needs to be done perfectly, he can hand over the reins. Now that is the perfect handy hubby! Hope that you had a restful Christmas and didn't spend your time painting or anything.

  5. I know that is frustrating to have to repair those ceilings! They will be nice when you're done though. Love the sunset pics. The sneak peek of your family room looks great.

  6. There's always a surprise or two or three when remodeling. How weird about the ceiling fixture.

Your sunset is fabulous. Enjoy your week.

  7. I hope you were able to relax over Christmas, Penny. It looks like you're coming along with the redecoration. Those little surprises are an annoyance, but better to find out about problems and get them dealt with now than later!

  11. Ugh! There's always got to be at least one unpleasant surprise waiting in a remodel, fixing the ceiling is something I know I would leave to the pro's too.
The sunset is amazing, and aren't you a tease just showing us that little bit of living room?!

  13. When we remodeled our kitchen we
We have those florescent light boxes in our kitchen and a smooth ceiling. I don't like them but
basically had no choice but to install some kind of florescent light. Berkeley, CA code requires a certain percent of the lighting be florescent and it also has to be connected to the switch closest to the door(s). We have some Very Odd codes here, even codes not needed in neighboring cities.

  14. Hi, Penny, I read your post to my husband, who is my "Mr. Fixit" and like Kent an electrical engineer.

When Rob heard that there were no boxes up behind the old fixtures, he laughed. But we were chuckling with you, not at you! Like you, we've been there and done that!

But I know that when it is all done, it will be beautiful. Your house(s) always are.

Have a happy New Year! xoxo Carol
