Other Door Colors?

In my last post I talked about painting the front door of the house we are buying either red or black.  I have always had a red door on every house I have had.  It is good feng shui.

But, I just might think outside the box on this one.  How about a yellow front door?

Or an eggplant purple front door?

They both look great with gray and white.

Some of you mentioned what color your door is but not all of you.  Do you want to share?  I would love to know.

I can't paint my door here since we are in military housing, but if I could or whenever we own our home it will be either red or a green, apple green!

I love red! But I like the yellow door too, Penny. My door is yellow and it just looks so friendly. But I have also had the door burgundy and pink too. I'm sure you will paint it the right colour. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Blessings,
Sandi

I'm liking that yellow door!!

Many different colors look great together thankfully. With gray and white you have many options. What does your husband think about it?

I like a red front door on a white house with black shutters. That seems to really pop! I have a stained wood oak door with leaded glass.

My front door is white, but want to paint it yellow. My house is also gray with white. I've been wondering about something, though. We have a white storm door as well. Can I paint it yellow too so it's all the same? Have you ever seen that?

Our door is red and I love it. That yellow door is beautiful!

There is something about that yellow door that speaks to me. But would it look good with a Christmas wreath? Unless you have a neutral wreath. Lots to think about.

I started with walnut- then went grey with white shutters- for several years my door has been black/shutters also black and I recently added a black and grey varigated roof. something about a black front door makes me home look and feel better.
as penny mentioned=Wreaths and other outdoor decor never conflicts with it, in fact the black gives everything elsea beautiful base to work off of.

Hi Penny, I love that you are showing different color doors. Our house is a tan with white trim but our door and some of the detail work is a Cape Cod Blue and I love it. It is the first door we've ever painted.
Thanks for sharing-can't wait to see what you decide.

I know this will shock you...hang on to your hat Penny, my door is red. I know. So predictable:>)
I like both of these door colors, I find that I am drawn to different colors in different seasons though, so I don't know if I would love the yellow door in Spring?

Mine is boring white. I kind of like the eggplant color simply because it's unique and not many people would choose it.

Can't say as I am in love with the yellow though....

I love, love, love the black door with the white surround. Sharp! Classic!

A few years ago it was green and now it is black. I am tempted to paint it dark red next year.

Gray and white affords your hearts desire. :))

Gray give you a lot of options Penny. We've always had a red door, but on our current house, it's a dark green.

Lately I've seen a lot of black doors that I like. Yellow is one of my favorite colors and you'll see it in my house, but it's not me on a door. Have fun. Everything looks great with gray.

I prefer the black or red rather than the yellow or purple, but that is just me. I once saw a picture of a house with a door painted "Morning Glory", it was the most glorious yellowish/orangish/redish shade and I fell in love with it. Never could find it in the store, sigh. My house is pale gray, white trim, and my door is Hunter Green.

Our door is white with a forest green surround - trip on the house is the same forest green.

I'm still voting on black for your new house.

Penny, I always think of a red front door when I think of you, but I like to consider change, too.

You definitely had me at the yellow door. And, I have seen a yellow door decorated at Christmas. It actually looked stunning. The reds and greens in the seasonal decor popped against that yellow. And, you know yellow is my favorite color.

By the way, my next door neighbor tried the eggplant, and it looked black from the street. Her house is gray, too.

I just painted my front door yellow this past weekend. It was between red and yellow. The yellow turned out great!

Our door is red, although some of the neighbors have mint green and teal doors and they are beautiful. I think black would be great, but not sure about the feng shui aspect of a black door.

My house in Texas -- I went with red and it was great. Then our previous house here in Birmingham needed yellow, and that looked great. The TV decorator, Lynette Jennings, used to say that if you painted a front door yellow, it would sell immediately. It took that house four years to sell, so I am not sure about the wisdom of that statement! This house with it's brown brick got a turquoise door, and I still like it after four years. However, I am thinking of getting rid of that door and the sidelights and going with a French style double door with some glass panes in the upper half. So I don't know if I will stick with the turquoise or perhaps go with a stained wood.

Oh, you know I love the yellow door, my friend. I have a bright navy blue door that matched the shutters on the front of my home. My sweetheart just repainted the house and the shutters and all the trim will be white. I'm debating about the door. It looks good with the navy but my heart longs for a yellow door. I'm still looking for just the right shade of yellow. I may be repainting my door soon! Or not!

Lets see, we have had black, white, cinnamon, and blue front doors. I'm not partial to yellow, so that wouldn't be my choice but a rich cranberry with the gray might be nice!

Hi Penny
I admit I would never have thought of a yellow door, but it looks wonderful :o)
My door? Oxford blue, you guessed it might be though, didn't you? ;o)

Have always loved red for the front door, because it looks so cheery during the darkest days of winter when we celebrate the holidays. With a fir & holly wreath, can't be beat.

The eggplant door is nice too -- I graduated from a university which had purple as one of its team colors, so have had a surfeit of purple in my life, but that doesn't detract from the impact of the color for others.

Or how about a deep, maritime (but lighter than navy) blue, with a shiny brass door knocker?

Whatever you choose will be lovely, I'm sure.

we recently painted our door navy blue. It was always red, but I do like the navy...it was time for a change. My daughter lives in a grey house with a yellow door and everyone comments on it. There is something special about a yellow door!

Your new house is so lovely, you can't go wrong! Our door is black, with white trim around, but remember that the brick has been painted a salmon-y light reddish color. But if I had it to do again (and I might!), I would choose a neutral house color so that I could change my door color all the time. How about yellow for spring, and purple for fall, LOL?!!

Good morning Penny, Now you have me thinking. The yellow is a hello day kind of color. Sunny and welcoming. Eggplant is my 2nd choice of today's colors but I agree it goes great with gray. If you have always had red then maybe a change would make you happier.
what does your hubs say? If he is like mine, he would tell me to choose. I love that about him. He lets me do whatever I want when it comes to decorating.

Love, Jeanne

I love interesting colored door! Mine is a black/dark blue. We have Pa. blue lime stone on the our home so it looks good against that.
Looking forward to seeing your new door color!

I quite like the yellow door with that gray. It's interesting that you're talking about what color to paint your front door because we've been having the same discussion at my house. The house is a pale green - sage rather than pastel - with a red brick foundation. The front steps/landing were painted red at some point, too, and the front door is a darker, but brighter green. It all looks fine, but I'm itching to change it. The front landing needs to be repainted, too - and trying to choose two colors that would complement the house and each other is proving rather more difficult than I expected. I've considered everything from eggplant to chocolate to charcoal, etc., but still no decision.

Our front door is red. The front door opens up right at the living room, of which is yellow. I have to say, when I saw that yellow door, it did make my heart skip a beat. Still, I like to coordinate the outside of the door to whatever walls it will open into so they don't clash when the door is open.
