Furniture

Happily, we will be able to use the furniture we already have in our new house.  Some chairs that were in the living room in our old house, will move to a den.  Pieces that were in the great room, might end up in the guest room, etc.

So even though most of the furniture will be the same, they will be rearranged for a whole new feeling.

There will be some exceptions.  I do want to find a special console or chest for the foyer, as I had mentioned in the last post.  So I will be scouting thrift stores and antique stores after we move.  I would love to find a piece that I can paint.  I am thinking something like this, from Ballard Design.
Antoinette Sideboard

Not necessarily this size or shape, but I am loving the red color.  But I am not loving the price.  $1399.  Yikes!

So I will hunt around and find one for a lot less and paint it red.  And luckily for me, a few months back I won a giveaway on Perfect Imperfections by Jeanne for some Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in the color Tricycle, which is a red color.

In fact Jeanne just painted a piece of furniture in the same color and posted it on her blog.  If you want to see it, click her link above.

I probably wont even hunt for a piece to paint until after we move, but I will keep you posted when I do.

I can sense the excitement and enthusiasm. For you to have lived in a home that you were not able to change must have been a huge challenge. That red is very nice. I wonder if the milkpaint you won is easier to find than the Annie Sloan paint, which I have had zero luck finding locally.

Guess what? I just found a dealer in my corner not thirty minutes away. This is a new development, believe me! I'm so excited!!

I think the fun part of a move, after all of the work, is to search out fun pieces. Red will be perfect!!

Congrats on your win! That will be fun trying out that paint for the first time. You can definitely use that color in your decor. I agree that you can probably find a piece of furniture to paint for alot less money. Ballards is high! I usually shop their outlet instead since it's just the next town over from me.

I look forward to seeing how you decorate your new home Penny! I know I will be clueless when we move on what to do in mine. We haven't had a buyer for our NY house so we won't be moving any time soon so I have lots of time to dream about what I'd like to do. I love the red credenza..I'd love a piece like that!

see you there! said...

That milk paint (many brands) is showing up everywhere. I'm going to have to find something to paint just so I can try it.

It will be fun to see what you end up using.

Penny, For some reason, it has taken me years to embrace red. It was always bolder than I wanted to be. In the last few years, I have found the "courage" to wear red, and decorate with red. Now, I feel as though using red is part of really living. Your blog has helped me quite a bit in this regard. Ilooooove that cabinet. But I could never pay that price. Too bad.
Love the "Tricycle Red" milk paint. Now I am wondering what I have that should be painted with it.

Hi Penny, definitely look for a piece to paint. Much cheaper and you will do it justice. It will be fun to look for just the right thing. do you ever go to auctions? That type of furniture goes so cheap. I love the paint color. Good luck. Your new home will be 'Penny perfect.' Smile! I mean it!
Happy weekend,
love, Jeanne

Perfect idea and inspiration. I love a console cabinet in a foyer - and you gain a bit of storage, too.
