I have wanted a wicker covered demijohn for a while now, but just didn't want to spend the $$$ for the ones I have been seeing online and in the antique stores.
Yesterday, while walking through one of my favorite antique malls, I spotted this....
I know...pretty ugly isn't it? I have seen demijohns made into lamps before and they were actually lovely, but this one - not so much.
After looking at it more closely, I could see that the light socket was just stuck into the wine cork and could easily be removed. So it came home with me.
Here it is below, on top of my wine cabinet next to my confit pot and olive jar.
I closer look below.
Want to know the best part? It was only $25.00. I got a 10% discount and I ended up paying $23.50. Pretty good, huh?
Welcome Home,
Penny

I just love a find like that - something to do with the ancient 'hunting and gathering' part of part of makeup, don't you think?
You must have been thrilled, Penny! It really looks great on your wine cabinet...love this room!

Looks good.
Be a sweetie,

It's always nice when you stumble upon something that you've been looking for. I think it looks great with your other jars!
Very nice. I'm impressed -- you're a super shopper! :o)
When I tried to post the above comment, something went horribly wrong -- and it got entered three times! I wouldn't mind -- but it wasn't that earth-shaking a comment!! LOL
Great find Penny! It looks great on top of your wine cabinet.
Yes, definitely pretty good. Actually, more like fantastic.
I'd say great! It looks perfect with the other pieces too. I am looking all the time and affordable ones are few and far between.
Hi Penny,
Wow, the demijohn looks great on top of your hutch along side your other jugs.. You sure had a eye when you saw this, what a great find! It looks wonderful, I really love it!
Do I see Henri's cousin on your bookcase? Henri sends his love.
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth
That was a good find, Penny! It looks much better without the lamp parts, too.
What a great find, Penny! Love how it looks on your cabinet.
Hugs,
Donna
Today is my day for learning new things. I am visiting your blog after having visited 2 Australians' blogs. At one, I saw a picture of a "bluetongue", which is a lizard, who knew? At the next, the blogger featured a "tip trip" find, which I surmise is the term for recovering a "treasure" at the local landfill.
When I came here and saw "demijohn", I was sure the post would be somehow related to Meg's son in "Little Women". I had no idea that it was a common noun naming an item that I didn't know had its very own name!
Okay, I am exhausted, I'll have to go to bed now.
Great find Penny. I knew you were looking for a demijohn. Hope you are enjoying your guests.
The demijohn certainly looks better without its lampshade hat. Glad you were easily able to get rid of the lamp makings.

Great deal, and I love, love those jars next to the demijohn. Are these photos in your new house?
Great find Penny and you knew just what to do with it!
