Which House Did We Pick?

You really don't think I would buy a condo?

Really?

After being my blog friend for years and years, you think you know me that well?

OK.

You do :-).

We did not buy the condo.  Though it was beautiful, and had great amenities, we just could not wrap our heads around not having some sort of yard/garden.

The house we made the offer on was house number 3.  Your guesses were pretty even between 2 and 3.  27 of you picked 2 and 35 picked house number 3.  No one picked the condo.

So here is where we are.  The sellers have graciously agreed to take care of some issues.  We are waiting on the bank appraisal.  In the mean time would you like to see more pictures of the house we chose?  Today, the outside.  Next post inside pictures.

The house has a steep front yard, but it has some ground cover and we will plant more ground cover and that will take care of that.  It has light gray hardiplank siding with white and dark gray trim.  I think we will change out the dark gray trim to all white trim.

As you can see, it has a great front porch.  The following pictures are the view you see standing on the front porch.

Mountain view to the left.

Lake view to the right.

Closer picture of the lake view below.

View looking a little towards the right with mountains in the distance.  It was a hazy day when I took this last photo.

The back yard...it is small, but I think a good size for us now.  We will add a pergola like we did at our last home, on a smaller scale.

There is a small patio off the great room with French doors.  It has a fire pit.  I think we will be removing that and putting a fireplace in it's place.

Here is a view of the back yard from the opposite direction.

It has a lot of landscaping in place that just needs a little trimming.  Plus we will add more when we get settled in.  I have hydrangeas!!

The walkway from the driveway.

The pretty stone retaining wall.  The base of the house is stone too.

Here are the stats on the house.  It is a 2 bedroom plus den, 2 bath home.  It has a bonus room upstairs.  It is about 2300 square feet.  That is about 1300 square feet smaller than the home we just sold.  It is a perfect size for the two of us.

Keep your fingers crossed on the bank appraisal.  I will show you inside pictures in the next post.   Thanks for house hunting with me!!
Welcome Home,
Penny

  3. I was wrong, though I can certainly see that this home has many charms and it will be gorgeous when you and your hubby get your hands on it. The front sloping yard concerned me. If you're not concerned; I won't be. What fantastic views! (Think you can talk a neighbor into cutting a tree or two. ;> )

  14. What a pretty view. Somehow I knew you would pick this one. We replaced the siding on our mountain house with Hardiplank and it's a fabulous material.

  15. The sloping yard threw me off on my guess. The views are incredible! I'll admit, I'm a little envious. You're flatlands Florida friend, Jeanne. :)

I love that you are on a new adventure. It will be so much fun to see you design and add your own touches to this home. I'll say a prayer that bank appraisal goes the way you want it to.

  29. Hi Penny, I picked the right one. I love the area photos and I hope the appraisal is good. It is a very lovely home and for the third time...I love the dormers. LOL. The lake view is awesome and I do like the landscaping very much. I like the fire pit as well. We love our smaller home (a little less than 2,000 Sq, ft.) However, we are on 1 & 1/3 acres. A lot to mow but we love where we live. It looks like your view is practically circle vision. So pretty.
Best wishes to you both on this new home adventure.
    Hugs,
    Jeanne

  34. Being of the olden age that I am, I was concerned about that steep front yard. However, if you don't mind it, like VEE, I won't worry, either. :))

    Love that big front porch.
You will have it all dressed and pretty in no time at all.

  36. Oh Penny...it's been a while since I have visited. I am so sorry! And then I get here and find out you are moving. Seems like just yesterday you had just moved into the old house and was so busy fixing it up. Wasn't that just a couple of months ago?? lol Love your "new" house, especially that stone wall. We had a stone wall in our old house and I loved it. If I had my druthers I think I would move now into something smaller and more manageable. 10 acres is a lot to take care of but Bobby G. wouldn't here of it right now. :) xoxo

  37. Oh Penny,it's so pretty. I am so curious to know where it is. We looked for a new house in North Carolina, near Asheville, but in the end decided we would wait until Hubby retires, since we just aren't there enough each year to enjoy it. We sold our North Carolina house in December. This summer we simply rented a house in Asheville. That was fun to have a place to stay with a kitchen, but then leave without having to think about maintaining it while we aren't there.

You chose well, that house is so pretty and the view is wonderful.

  38. How beautiful! I love it, it has such character already and I'm sure you'll make it even better.

  40. I lived in a house just a wee bit larger than that in Arizona and it was the perfect size. We would love to retire in something about that size instead of this monstrosity we are in. I'm happy you two made your decision. Love the house and that neat stone wall!

  41. I really like this house! The views are so pretty and I love that you have a small yard but big enough to plant a few of your favorite things.
