House Hunters Day 1

Yesterday I went out with my Realtor (who is wonderful, by the way!) and looked at several houses.

As promised, I am taking you along on this house hunting journey with me.

This first house was lovely, but in the woods and very dark inside.  I crave light and I need it to take good blog photos for my food blog.  So it was a pass.

This house below was in the same neighborhood as the first and again too dark inside.

Love the first floor of the house below.

But to get to the downstairs level you needed to use this spiral staircase (great if you are in your 20's - not so much when in your 50's-60's).  You could also go outside and come in an outdoor entrance, but not practical for us.

Another lovely home below, but the garage was a drive under, which meant climbing up and down stairs with groceries etc.  Not what I am looking for in my forever home.

So we continue to look.  We are meeting our Realtor tomorrow AM for 3 more houses.  Wish us luck!

  1. Good luck. They're all pretty houses, but I can understand your reasons for deciding against them. I like houses with a lot of light, too.
I didn't know you had started a food blog. I popped over to browse around it's lovely. I signed up to follow.

  2. You know what you are looking for and you will find it. What you've seen already looks beautiful.

  5. We may be doing this next year. Those are nice looking homes, but we all have our needs as we age. The stairs would bother me too!

  6. I love that you consider the light for blog photos while choosing a house! Finding just the right home takes time, doesn't it?

  7. You know what you want, which is helpful as you look.

  8. So glad that you know just what you want and won't settle for anything less. There's really no need to in this economy. It's still a buyer's market there, right? It sure is here.

  9. You are so smart Penny. No spiral stairs.

I had to smile when you said you needed light for food photos. You have officially become a food blogger with that statement! Another blogger's son said when he saw that her food lacked a lot of color, how are you going to use that on your blog? We certainly look at things through different eyes today don't we.

Enjoy the long weekend. BTW, the third photo reminded me of your pretty front porch on the house where you had the get-together.

  11. All charming, but not perfect. I am so with you on stairs. We have three floors in this house. Another requirement for me would be a front porch.

Good luck. I can't wait to see the houses today.

  14. I know it's hard to find a home that has everything that you're looking for in it already. I agree with you that you should stay away from stairs. In your older years, they are not welcome! My house has a bazillion stairs and it can be such a hassle at times. I also agree about the dark houses not being as good. Unfortunately, though, that comes with the territory when you have a lot of trees (which I love). I hope you find some better choices for you. I like the yard on the first one you showed. It had some pretty landscaping.

  19. Hi Penny,

I love looking at houses, so taking me along on your house hunt is right up my alley. Love that very last house. But, I know what you mean about stairs.

You'll find the perfect one soon.

  22. We found our house after three days of whirlwind looking, Penny. We knew the community we wanted to live in so we only looked there and did a lot of online RE browsing before we went out with the realator so I knew what I wnated to see. We are actually upsizing and will have stairs, but I like stairs as I feel they keep one in good shape. In Italy all the octogenarians can climb stairs and hills like twenty year olds! It keeps them healthy.

I'm sure after all the times you've moved that you know no place is absolutely perfect but you have time to look around and get as close to what you want as possible. Good luck!
