Summer Fun

I think this is the first summer in a long time, that I haven't had a trip planned to somewhere.

With the move into this temporary home, and spending time thinking about what our next step is (whether we build or buy), a trip is just not in the plans this summer.

But, there are other things I can do this summer that are fun, and in my own backyard.

We can go hiking.  There are beautiful vistas and trails to hike including some like these at DuPont Forest.

Several mountain lakes to boat on.

And summer concerts to go to.

I think a vacation in my own back yard sounds fun!  So what are your vacation plans this summer?

Welcome Home,
Penny

  1. Same as yours...stay close to home. My sister invited us, yet again, to her place in New York, though we won't be going. It's no fun driving in summer traffic and I'm definitely not flying.

  4. You obviously have lots of fun things to do right in your own back yard. I'll be spending as much time at our Mt. House as possible. I do plan to head North to visit Mom in the early fall tho.

  7. We will go back and forth from one end of GA to the other. Our "most of the time" home is in Northeast GA,(an hours drive from NC) and our "some of the time" home is in Southwest GA, near the FL/AL state lines. So, we'll have staycations wherever we happen to be. We manage to stay busy. Looks like you'll be having LOTS of fun.

    Happy summer!

  8. We've recently taken a 'big' trip to a family reunion and time with friends. The rest of the summer we will stay close to home - a lot to do nearby!

  9. Summers are a very busy time for me at work. Relaxing time will be at home will involve moving from the front porch to the sunroom to the deck to the terrace. Of course each relocation will be fortified by something cold to drink.

  13. You don't have to go far for vacation. Afterall, there are alot of people that drive to your area for vacation anyway! Lucky you! We plan on going to the beach down in FL, near St. Augustine this year. We're going to rent a condo on the beach in July. I'm really looking forward to it.

  14. Penny, we aren't going anywhere this summer either (just a quick trip to NJ to help my parents on the 4th of July Wed. arrive leave Sunday to come home). You have plenty of vacation things to do right in your backyard just like you said! The area you live in is just gorgeous-enjoy it! Have fun decided whether to build or buy! The builder is starting our new house the end of this month!! Very exciting-I love building!!

  15. No rel vacation plans for this year. Both with new jobs that haven't accumulated vacation time yet. But we have plans to attend a bluegrass concert at a local lavender farm at the end of the month. We will probably just have fun here and there as we can:>)

  20. We'll be vacationing on the Island one week in July - probably camping and hiking. In August we're going out to Alberta to see Tim's family, then take a week and vacation in the Rockies. Nothing big planned for this year.

  24. It sounds like you have a lot you can do right near home, Penny. We probably won't go away either, but I'd like to take some time to explore what is in the area since a lot of it is still new to us since we moved.

  25. Penny I know tow people that had their houses built and enjoyed the experience very much as they were able to have everything be exactly the way they wanted it to be. However, it did take longer than they thought it would.

I love stay-cations as I get a chance to do more around my city than usual. Your area has so many wonderful things to see and partake in that I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

My husband and I will be driving cross country to Colorado this summer to drop my daughter's bridal shower gifts off at her home. Hopefully we'll be able to make a few stops along the way on the way home.
