When we were in Italy a few years ago, I noticed that many of the trattoria's had lights strung around the outdoor dining areas.
Not the little twinkle Christmas style lights you usually see here, but strings of lights with clear glass round bulbs. I knew that is exactly what I wanted for my pergola.
Mr. Comforts of Home even installed a dimmer switch on the lights so they could be bright enough for eating dinner, then dimmed for a romantic feel. You can see the dimmer box in the picture above. It is located on the outside of a back beam and can not be seen while in the pergola.
I love how the lights look. It brings back wonderful memories of Italy.
edited to add....the lights came from K-Mart, I have also seen them at Target.
Welcome Home,
Penny

These are wonderful Penny. We had these type lights on the deck, at the lake for awhile.
They really set the mood for your pergola. Beautiful!

This looks really neat, Penny. I'd love to have something like this around our patio...so pretty! I am really loving your fountain, too!

It really adds "atmosphere" to your pergola.
You could even dine at midnight, if you choose!
I absolutely love the pergola. And, the lights are the crowning touch. You will enjoy that space for years to come, I'm sure.
You have really made your yard a lovely living space. Love the idea of the lights.
Omigosh Penny! When I saw the first picture I thought it was one you had found from Better Homes & Gardens website or something. I can't believe that is your backyard!!! It's totally gorgeous. I would live outside for sure.

Hi Penny,
Beautifully done! Mr Comforts of Home is so sweet I think he loves Mrs Comforts of Home very much!!
Next summer Gary and I are going to be re-doing our patio off the living room. It already has a roof, I want to paint and re-do the lattice also the cement. I think the lights strung along the patio would be the finishing touch..Gary has a lot to do LOL
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth
What a beautiful place. Your pergola does have the air of southern Europe. Sigh.
Your garden is so beautiful! I love the lights, and have some that are similar. The glow is so lovely and I bet you enjoy many peaceful evenings out there.
I love em! Each year we talk about putting up lights on our pergola and we never have. Honestly, it's so hot here that there's not a lot of sitting out there...unfortunately.
Penny, I like the addition of the lights. Great idea!
That man is truly a keeper!

If there is one thing I love it is small lights hung outside on a soft summer night. Soooo romantic and beautiful. I love these Penny, where did you fond them?
Penny, the two of you have created a magical place, and I love it all.
I'm sorry I haven't visited this past week. I've been so busy with the Miracle Makeover, but it has been a joy. Today is the last day.
That is a beautiful look. Everything looks great in your backyard. Are you telling where you found the lights?
How cozy....that would be so inviting to sit in on a summery evening!
Hi Penny, I love your outdoor entertaining area. It's something hubby and I need to concentrate on this year! I love the idea of the lights.. yes, so very italian and I think I may have to pinch that idea from you.. lol!! take care, Maryann
I LOVE the way it looks!
I just adore your lights Penny!!! I sure hope you invite us over again this year! So far the only ting I have planned is my HS Reunion. I think it's Oct. 5th I think.
I have these lights hanging on my gazebo. We bought extra and hung them between some trees out by our sitting area. A couple weeks ago high winds blew down the lights in the trees and several bulbs broke, leaving a mess to clean up. I still love them though and will definitely replace them.
Hugs,
Cathie
The lights are wonderful. I really like the feel they give off ~ it's so welcoming.
Oh Penny I just love how the space turned out!! It will be such a dreamy spot once the weather cools down! I could spend all fall out there.
