Weekend Fun

So, over the weekend I went to a new Flea Market in town called Paris of The South.  It was opening weekend and I had high hopes for it.  I was a little disappointed in the amount of venders, but I will wait a few weeks and go back to see if it picks up.

On Sunday I went to a craft show downtown Asheville and then to the Biltmore Estate to see the gardens there.

There is a Tiffany Stained Glass Lamp exhibit going on now and the lamps are beautiful.  What is really fun is that they arranged their gardens to compliment Tiffany's stained glass designs.

See the dragonfly flower bed below?  Can you see the huge dragon fly?  Click on the picture to enlarge and you can read all about it on the sign.

The Biltmore Estate gardens are always beautiful.  Here are some of the flowers there.

We also went to Lowe's to get a rotiserrie attachment for our grill and some more mulch for the backyard.
So what did you do this weekend?  I would love to know!  Grab some coffee and let's chat.
Welcome Home,
Penny

  2. Those Biltmore folks are very talented and clever. I enjoyed seeing the giant dragonfly. Do they allow photos inside? Probably not.

What did I do? I started off the weekend with a grandson in tow and we went out for breakfast, which was fun. Then I shopped at Lowe's for a hoe and some gardening gloves for my daughter-in-law's birthday. She asked for those things. I'd never give a gal that for her birthday. She also received some cash to do something a little more special. Today has just been beautiful, warm, low humidity, and I've been reading and putzing about with my own flowers and garden.

  3. I didn't get very much done. It's terribly hot outside, and I'm just lacking any drive or energy. Love those pretty flowers though!

  4. Yesterday I spent the morning staking all my pepper plants since the rain has been knocking them over and put up 2 jars of kosher dills.
Today my friend took me out to lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant and made me an embroiderd apron (i am an apron gal) and bought me a veggie slicer! And it rained today, so it was a great weekend.
I love the big flower pot effect the the Wisteria (I guess that is what that is.) I love to go to flower gardens. Thanks for the awesome photos.

  6. Um, let's see. Went to Wally World for groceries and then to Kroger for more groceries, walked the dog, cleaned up dog hair from floor, did laundry, watched Hubby power wash front porch and sidewalk. Nothing extraordinary... just routine life. :-)

I think I would have enjoyed your week-end more.

  7. I've only been to Biltmore once, many years ago, but the gardens were definitely a favorite part of the visit. I hope to get back to Asheville someday. It's a lovely area.
Our Sunday ~ we drove to the hill country to buy a couple of bushels of fresh picked Texas peaches. Redglobe variety ~ they are delicious. We'll be busy in the kitchen freezing them soon.

  8. Hi Penny. I would so love to visit the Biltmore Gardens. They are quite far away from me. What did I do this weekend? Exercise in pool at spa, church, bought a cute hat, did some writing for a book on moms. Aren't weekends grand?

  9. There's always so much to do here in Asheville, isn't there! We are blessed to live in a beautiful place! We enjoyed spending the afternoon at the Arboretum and I took a bunch of pics, too! I'm glad it didn't rain! Hugs! ♥

  10. Your weekend was much more fun than mine Penny. I (Spring) cleaned the master bedroom - better late than never, and it was cooler staying indoors and doing something worthwhile. Also baked two cakes, one with fresh raspberries and another with peaches., early in the morning before things heated up. Diet? It's gone to pot again!

The Biltmore always does wonderful floral beds - thanks for sharing the really lovely dragonfly.

    Hugs - Mary

  11. I hope to visit the Biltmore one day! The dragonfly made from flowers is so beautiful!

It was a quiet weekend here. We did a few chores around the house, grocery shopped and spoke to the kids on the phone. My husband had a routine colonoscopy prep to do today for the test tomorrow.

  12. Hi Penny! We went to a little town near here called Niles. Charlie Chapin made his silent movies there and it is now awash in antique stores. I did come home with some goodies. Today we went up to a town near Sacramento. My nephew is a deacon at his church and he was preaching today. So my family sat in the second row, proud as punch! Then we had a bbq at his how afterwards. It was so nice!

  13. The dragonfly is amazing. Me? I sat on the deck at the Mt. House. I managed to do a bit of sketching in the morning and went swimming each afternoon. I drank a mimosa or two. Ahhhh, summer.

  15. Hi Penny,
I enjoy your photos so much of the Biltmore Gardens. The dragonfly is amazing..just this weekend I stopped into a little antique shop and purchased two vintage dragonfly broaches.
Your home gardens are looking so lovely! Gary and I need to spend a few hours next weekend removing a few plants that have grown to big for there spot. The previous owners had planted them and were planted in the wrong space. Have a sweet day and big hugs...Elizabeth

I'm so glad to visit your new Flea Market makeover site now too. Wonderful ideas! I don't know where you find the time for all your creative endeavors! Do you take time to sleep? Just wondering! I'll be back to visit again soon!
