I love hydrangeas, but unfortunately I don't have any growing around my house.
I found a seller on eBay that has the most beautiful dried hydrangeas in many different colors. I pick these, they have a little cream, green and burgundy. Perfect colors for my French country home.
I bought some florist foam and stuck it inside my favorite yellow planter. Then I stuck the hydrangeas woody stems in the foam. Easy peasy and no watering!
I love it! It says summer to me. Tell me, do you have hydrangeas growing at your home?
Welcome Home

I never did before, but our Pastor just moved to another church and his wife dug up one of the bushes at the old house and gave it to me! I will remember them every time I see it:>) I don't know if it will bloom this year, but it seems to be quite healthy so far.
I just love hydrangeas!
For some reason I can't grow them. I have planted five and lost all but one and that one won't grow and has never bloomed. I finally moved it this spring hoping that a new location will help it along.
I am determined though and will keep trying. I love the way they look.
At the French flea market I went to Friday they had a Limelight hydrangea bloom in a vase of flowers. It was gorgeous. That one is on my wish list for sure!
I have one bush, but it only put out two blooms this year and none last year. I think we will move it in the fall. Love your dried ones.
My hydrangea bush is huge this year and I think I will dry some of the blooms. Your mantel looks gorgeous with the hydrangeas in the pretty yellow flower pot.
Hugs,
Donna
No, but I'd like to. Fortunately for me, I have a friend with a huge one and she shares bouquets with me when I'm in need of some dried ones. Your mantel does look lovely and beautifully summery and simple. Sigh. I'm trying for simple and not quite achieving it.
No, not in the desert. Yours are stunning. I have to use the silk ones, but at any rate they are all stunning. Your display is gorgeous and your mantel is beautiful. Hugs, marty
No, we don't have any, but a small tree died in our front yard and Hubby had to remove it. I told him I want to plant a hydrangea there... the front yard needs color.
Great looking mantel!
Di
I have lots of them. You know what? I hardly ever cut the blooms off. Just can't bring myself to do it because they are so pretty.
Oh, Penny! How beautiful! I love hydrangeas too but the one and only one I have is in a pot outside and the heat just about burned it up! :)
I just love seeing your lovely home.
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)
Penny, I have a big copper tub of dried hydrangeas that I just keep adding to. I buy my hydrangea blooms, though I do have a few plants in the garden. They don't put out many blooms. I dream of having a huge bush in our garden like Cuisine Kathleen. LOL
Yours look perfect for your home. Great find. ~ Sarah
We have one bush in the front of our house that we planted about 6yrs ago and we get a ton a blooms every year. We just planted another this spring on our pool deck, I hope it does just as well. Your dried ones look beautiful on your mantel Penny! Martina
I had no idea you could get those on eBay. They look lovely on your mantle.
I love them too and yes, we have them in the front yard. However I've always wondered why, when I cut some to bring inside the house, they almost automatically wither and just look sad. :-((
This seems to be one plant I can grow! I did find if they are in too much sun they don't like it. Morning sun is best. I get a lot of blooms and cut them all the time. I love them dried as well as fresh cut in a container~your mantle looks great with them.
I do have hydrangeas and every spring I'm hopeful that I will have abundant blooms. I have some blooms but not as many as I'd like. Not really sure why...I have purchased dried hydrangeas before though too. I even bought bittersweet a few times from an eBay seller. eBay is an amazing thing!
No,this type of hydrangeas won't grow this far north. But there is a snowball hydrangeas that can take the cold we have up here.
I just picked my mother in-law up from S. MI and her blue one was in bloom. Beautiful.
Your looks lovely on the mantel piece.
I never even thought of purchasing this on line.
Great idea!
No hydrangeas growing here, but they are one of my favorites!! Your mantel looks great!! Have a happy day!
I'm so missing blooms on my two hydrangeas in front of the porch. Had to cut them down last Fall to paint the house and this season they grown huge again but nary a bloom! You may recall they've been swathed in dozens and dozens of blue blooms in former years and I have had loads to dry. Perhaps next year they'll flower again - sure hope so. Of course it's hard keeping the shrubs perky in this heat (heat index of 110 expected today) and we have to water daily - they should be more in the shade really.
Love the yellow container - your mantel is always beautiful Penny.
Hugs - Mary
I have 3 huge white Annabelles and they grow like weeds! I wait till late in summer and they start to get a green tint to them then I bring them in and stick them in vases without water and they dry beautifully! I change them out every year just so they look their best. Your mantle certainly does say summer! Very pretty!~Hugs, Patti
Yes I do. My Mom used to dry her hydrangeas before she passed...thanks for the precious memory.
Hydrangeas are just such gorgeous flowers! Those look beautiful on your mantel! I used to have hydrangeas at our house but I don't have any right now. Some day I will have them again!
We don't have any hydrangeas but I love them! Your mantel looks beautiful - very summery. I need to "fluff" mine up a bit too!
Thanks for stopping by!
Shelley
I do, but they are not yet blooming. I love, love hydrangeas. So full and lush. Your mantel is fluffed beautifully!
Penny, hope you read Marlena's two previous books leading up to the move to Umbria - they are fabulous too!
Just come in from watering the desperate plants - heat index is 110 right now, awful, I'm off to shower, again!
Penny your mantel looks pretty! I do have hydrangeas growing and have some dried ones in a planter also from a couple years ago. They last forever! Have a wonderful week!
Hugs,
Maryjane
Your mantel looks so light and pretty. It is the perfect summer look.
We finally have a huge and extremely productive hydrangea. It look us purchasing many plants, and each one dying before we found the perfect spot.
Hi Penny.....Boy have I missed blogging and visiting blogs...it's been a long 5 months!!....we are moving into a new home on Aug. 5th....and I have to admit I am stealing your love of red....we bought a fabulous red cabinet for our DR with a matching little short chest....my milk glass collection will go in the big cabinet...Also doing some sort of red balloon shades....
I adore dried hydrangea but I could probably even kill off the dried ones....
I cannot grow anything.....Your mantel looks lovely......Sue.
I love hydrangeas....planted four Nikko Blue bushes along the side of our garage. They are coming up beautifully...two of them have beautiful pink and cream blossoms and the other two have a gorgeous blue color!
Love it! Your mantel looks great. I have two hydrangeas at my house back East, but none here. We did have one in a pot and it did quite well for about three years but then it took a turn and now the pot's empty. I really like how well the flowers dried - they look fantastic.
I have more hydrangeas every year than I can use! It isn't hard to find someone who wants to share them with me. Wish you lived closer - you could share them, too. Love them in your yellow planter.
~Adrienne~
Love the yellow container!
I just want to say that I love your header. It's so crisp and inviting.
Cheers!
