Lions, Fountains, Pergolas, France, Italy

or Rome wasn't built in a day...

I love the old world look.  Country French, Tuscan, English Cottage.  So when I decorate inside, it is a mixture of all of the above.

Same goes with my landscaping.  Here is a couple of inspiration pictures.

I love the look of boxwood, with roses.  The formality of the boxwood, with the wildness of rose bushes.

I love focal points of water fountains.

We got our water fountain hooked up and running this past weekend.

We planted boxwood around it.

Now we just have to add tons more boxwood and roses.

Oh, and lavender and geraniums would be nice too.  Like I said, Rome (nor my garden) wasn't built in a day.  It could take years to finish the backyard, but what fun work it is!

Do you like gardening?

Welcome Home,
Penny

Oh, now this is looking marvelous Penny! Adore that fountain, and I can picture it all filled in! I was clipping my boxwood globes last week! I have round boxwoods with my roses too. Love that combination. I just love what you are doing in your yard.

Backyards look better when done as a work in progress. Otherwise they just look too contrived. Take your time and have fun with it... it's really looking nice!

Your fountain is beautiful and I'm sure that you are both enjoying the sound of the water falling. I think a truly beautiful garden incorporates all five senses. Do I enjoy gardening? Sometimes, but it is not my favorite thing to do. I more enjoy the results.

Gorgeous fountain! Love the lion details. Remember it's the process that gives us joy. And - is a home or garden ever finished????

It may not be finished, but oh it is beautiful! I wish I could share some of my lavender with you. I have several kinds blooming, including some pink lavender!
Love your fountain, the sound of water is so soothing. I bet you are spending a lot of time enjoying the pergola now:>)

I love your new fountain. Your backyard is really coming along. I love the formal lines you can get from boxwoods - it's like they provide just the right amount of order. I love both formal and informal gardens, so mixing the two seems right to me. The cement planter you found really does look like an old wicker basket - it's incredible! And good luck on the cushions.

I know how you feel, Penny. Sometimes I see big, beautiful lilac, hydrangea or peony bushes and I think, "Why didn't I plant those years ago?"!! I guess you have to keep working towards the dream. I love the fountain. Al is a fan of them, the bigger, the better!!

Jane

We are in the process of planting an herb garden - planted 24 boxwood plants over the weekend. I will never have a very formal look here by the ponds, but a little structure is a good thing!

Penny, your yard is looking stupendous. I am so jealous. Our backyard is in terrible shape and we just can't spend anything on it right now. I would love to have the raised gardens and pretty landscaping, but it will have to wait until we are sure hubby's job is secure. Too iffy right now.

It all looks fabulous, Penny. The new fountain is a beauty.

We've been here 21 years, and there is still constant tweaking.
