Here's what is happening around my house....
The granite people have made the template for the new counter. It will be ready in 2 weeks. In the meantime, Mr Comforts of Home is doing some de-constructing.
This is the counter before...
It was raised to a second level. I wanted my counter to be "counter" height, not "bar" height. It gives you more working room.
Here is what it looks like this morning....
What's happening around your house this weekend?
Welcome Home,
Penny

Penny, good idea. One level is so much more useful. You are going to enjoy a granite counter!
At our house this weekend ~ more time in the garden planting and spreading mulch. ;-)
Happy Weekend! ~ Sarah
excellent! I love to see projects being done.
I like the color of your cabinets :)
Oh that will look great when it's done! Good idea! As we speak, we are adding shelves to a basement closet for wrapping paper storage and other small things. Always great to cross a project off the list!
Nothing that exciting....but I am going to clean the garage!! Does that count??
Hooray for counter height!~
But I don't quite understand... Is 'Mr.CoH' in the process of just taking the bar-height-part off? Or is he going to make the bar-height-part, to counter height too?
Great! Either way. Hooray for husband who can *do stuff.* :-)
Not too much here, but I am trying to get into a It-Is-Spring-mood! If I accomplish that, it will be a great accomplishment! :-) What with still fighting off the lingering cough and still some snow cover around these parts.
Gentle hugs,
.♥.
That should look lovely when it's done. I like the counter height because it really opens up the kitchen too.
Oh my, that is the neatest "deconstruction" area I have ever seen! It's going to be beautiful of course:>) Puttering around today, spring cleaning, dying some cloth to make accessories for my daughters new apartment and homework. Always homework. Have a great weekend Penny!
Nothing as interesting as this... I've never seen anyone take this in reverse as you're doing. Something about the bar height preventing a view into the kitchen, but I see that you two are incredibly neat so it'll not be a problem. Looking forward to the before and afters.
Oh it is going to be wonderful. I don't like a bar height counter either. It is way more useful and good looking too to just have counter height. Love your floors. I am green with envy. Hugs, Marty
Penny, I have the counter height and thought I wanted bar height. You are right there is more room with the counter height. Looking good. I am cutting the grass today.
Penny, I can't wait to see the new granite! It will look fabulous! I think that is smart making it all one height, it does give you more room.
Can't wait to see the result with the new granite Penny! it's already a beautiful kitchen. Love your blog header too, it's getting me in the mood for spring!
The same counter height will be really nice. A nice place do deorate too.
I, personally, don't care for bar height counters because then you need bar height stools and I don't like to "perch" when I'm eating. I'm short and getting up on the bar stools gracefully is a bit of a trick, also. Call me "grace".
I love counter height the best. When we remodeled our kitchen last year, some of my friends thought I was crazy not to put a bar on our island. Now when they come in and see the miles of kitchen real estate I have, they love it. And so do I!
Can't wait to see the finished product!
Wow Penny! That is going to be fantastic. Can't wait to see the final results! :-) At our house...I was the coordinator for my son's school auction which took place last night so now I'm trying to catch up on a week's worth of laundry and cleaning!

You will love the level counter height! Your kitchen remodel looks a bit tidier than mine at the moment. We are waiting on windows and a quartz counter top. Ours was not a planned reno... slab leak due to freezing weather early February. Love your home! ...Karen
Looks exciting Penny. We just had quartz counter tops put in at our condo and they drew a template too.
How funny. We had a flat counter and had ours built up to what you are tearing out. When our counter was flat you could see the dirty dishes in the sink from the living room.

Nothing at all like that, Penny! I'll be watching the work at your place and taking notes, though.
It will all be worth it and I can't wait to see it.
Hugs,
Cathie
Hi Penny! Thanks for your sweet comment today. It has been so beautiful here. It's fun to be outside.
Your projects always amaze me. Your kitchen is already gorgeous and those counters will be the crowning touch. When we built our house I didn't have that upper level bar put on there. It makes the workspace so much larger...plus we all tend to sit junk up on that top part. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Isn't it exciting to get something new?! I can't wait to see the new counter tops! Hopefully we will be getting some in the near future!
So far it has been a good weekend...in the 50's. I went out to lunch with the girls and then took a nap!!
XO,
Jane
Hi Penny! You are the smartest one! This makes so much sense having the counter the same height! Can't wait to see it all.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh, can't wait to see! I've been crafting and gardening around here.
Brenda
It's gonna be great! It snowed here today! Jealous of all you girls with spring weather. Mimi
just checking in to see what is happening at your place I swear no grass growing under your feet busy busy bees! look forward to seeing the results.
I can't wait to see how this all turns out! Your kitchen was gorgeous already!!! This will be a added bonus!!!!
Hi Penny,
How very exciting..I bet you just can't wait. I love it when I get something new in the kitchen.. I like your idea of more counter space, its going to look great!
Have a sweet week and hugs, Elizbeth
Hi Penny,
How silly of me....LOL I spelled my own wrong LOL
My fingers sometime get away from me while I'm typing.
Hugs, Elizabeth
Great idea. It does make it so much easier.
The weekend came and went too fast! My sweetheart was away for the weekend so I 'tore' into my office. A major reorganization and file cleaning made it look like a tornado had gone through. It isn't finished yet but the big changes have happened. Now to put everything back again!
Can't wait to see your new counter. You're going to love it, I know.
~Adrienne~
I, too, have this kind of raised counter top in my kitchen.Over the years, it has been used as an extra place for eating, a desk, a project table, so so many things. Every time I mention removing it, Mr. Sweet gets a "over my dead body" look in his eyes.:))) He loves it.
