French Laundry? Another Before Project for 2011

French Laundry
I saw a lot of this in France last spring.

Below are some inspiration ideas for my laundry.  Love the glass doors.  I have enough cabinets, I could replace a couple of plain doors with glass ones.  There are no windows in my laundry and it would lighten it up, I think.

Or I could go with a couple of open shelves, for display...but I think that would collect a lot of lint and dust, don't you?

I was thinking about black and white prints, in my laundry, but might go with big pops of color in the art instead.

Here is my laundry below...

So this is another project for this year.  When I start working on it I will let you all know...

Do you love your laundry room?  Why?  What have you done to make it a fun place to be?
Welcome Home,
Penny

Hi Penny, I think your laundry room has good bones, just needs some of your touches! My laundry is in the powder room~a real no-no in my humble opinion. But thats the way it is, and I have yet to tackle it.

I do love the look of open shelving, but I'm with you.... dust would collect and no matter where I have lived it seems there is always dust in the air to settle on EVERYTHING.

My laundry room is so small in this house. The next one is going to be HUGE... I just know it! HA

Oh but you have space! My "laundry room" is a closet - honestly! We've been thinking that if we went to a stackable washer/dryer unit we could maximize the space we have and add storage. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Penny, you are so funny. Your pergola area is still in process and already mentally you've moved on to something new!!!!

Oh to have a laundry ROOM! Never going to happen here in the cottage - just a closet in the kitchen with room for washer/dryer and accoutrements, and a few shelves to store stuff.............but very handy. Beats heading to the river with a washboard I guess, altho' I did enjoy hanging my clothes to dry in my brother's garden in France - they just smelt fresh and so clean without the 'hot' dryer odor!

You will like some glass doors though, and adding art, and your always wonderful touches, will make it a showplace Penny.

Hope all is going well dear - enjoy your weekend.
Hugs - Mary

Lets see- laundry up north is in Don's shed. I'm allowed one corner for the washer/dryer and my gardening supplies. It's his man cave. In Florida- The park has 2 laundry facilities so I go there. We don't have a washer/dryer at our place.

Makes me miss my corner of the shed...lol...Love your laundry room and looking forward to seeing what you do.

Your laundry space is cool. I love my laundry space only when the door is closed!

Penny, I despise my laundry room. That is on my to do list, too. The walls in there are the same dark yellow that was in the dining room and with now natural light it is awful. My room is not big at all. I wish I had made it larger. Wasn't thinking too good on that one when we built the house. You have a nice size room. Yes open shelves speak dust too me and who needs more dusting. I like the idea of open shelves though.

Love your inspiration photos! Your laundry room is going to be fantastic when you are finished, my friend. Go with the glass doors and whatever style and color of wall art your heart desires. I don't love my laundry room but I love what it could become. As with every single thing in my little 60's-vintage ranch home it all in process. I love what I've done with it but I wish I could add the style of door I long for so when we sit at the dining room table we aren't looking right into the laundry room! But I'm SO thankful to have a laundry room - my cousin has to go to the garage. Out through the cold and wind and rain, into a side door of the garage. She's thankful not to go to a laundromat sometime around town - I'm thankful for a laundry room in my home. Warm and snug and close by! Can't wait to see what you do with yours.

You already have such a great laundry room Penny!
You have so much to work with and I can't wait to see what you accomplish in there.
I hate my laundry room with a passion!
It's in the basement and it's not set up well at all! But at least I have a washer-n-dryer and some don't even have that.
Happy Weekend,
Cindy

I love the glass doors idea actually. And a montage picture of different detergents, like tide, cheer, all and gain...print out and cut out lay out and snap, there's your photo, also something like that lovely picture at the top, only your own somehow...
thanks so much for the lovely words, Penny.
hugs

I do love my laundry room. It is a glorified closet really. But I love all my old laundry "stuff". My shelves are open and really, they do not get that dusty. I cleaned them once a year taking all down...but I swiffer what I can occasionally. Have fun with it!!

You're going to have fun with that laundry room - I think that the glass doors are the way to go. Why give yourself a reason for dusting in the laundry?
I am very happy with my laundry room off the kitchen and have decorated it with a collection of Danish blue enamelware and a lovely, large water colour of laundry hanging between buildings over a European street. The wall colour is pear yellow, as the window is small and I crave all the light I can get!

I really don't like doing laundry here as it is two flights down to a dark and dreary basement {comes free with an old home}. At the lake the laundry room is just off the kitchen and I hum as I go! Big difference.

Your laundry has a lot of potential...color for sure! Have fun with this project!

Jane

Sigh, I dream of a laundry like any of these. Do I love my laundry? No! It's down in the basement (dungeon) with cement floors and cob webs. Some day.....

That will be fun to see what you do!

Mine is tiny, but I do have room for the extra refrigerator and I love that. I like closed cabinets, a great place to hide all the laundry stuff out of sight. I can't wait to see your all redone. Hugs, Marty

Hi Penny,
So glad to hear that you are doing well. Lucky you to have an actual laundry room - mine is in a nook in my garage behind a curtain -I decorated the walls with some of my paintings of lavander and hung dried lavender on the walls - used a cute decorative container for the laudry soap and called it good. I would go for touches of color in lieu of the black and white prints to give it a little fun... can't wait to see what you end up doing.
Have a lovely day and very Happy New Year.
Blessings,
Erin

Hi Penny...I do love my laundry room, it's half pantry and half laundry room. I have cabinets on both sides. I do love glass cabinet doors a lot, had them in my last kitchen. Good luck with it all :D

I love the tile you had done in your laundry room! It adds so much to the area! When I had a nice laundry room, I had baskets above my cabinets and a really neat armoire...and a desk! lol I LOVE doing laundry so I like a nice space! Here in Florida...my washer and dryer are in the garage! But that's nice...we don't need the heat and humidity in the house! lol Stay warm during this snowy weather! Hugs! ♥

Hi Penny, wow you have lot's of cupboards in your laundry. I think changing some of the top ones with glass doors would look really lovely and some bright pics to liven it up abit especially since there is no window. I have just made over my laundry not long ago and have been wanting to add a few final touches before I do a reveal. I love my laundry now.. if you could call it that as I have used half of it for something else!
I'm glad to hear you are on the mend, nothing worse than not being able to use your arm and I have been really loving your outdoor 'snowy' pictures. I wish it would snow here, atleast it's beauty would take away abit of the drearyness of winter.
Looking forward to seeing your finished laundry.. thanks so much for popping into my blog when I have been so slack. take care, Maryann

It will ba a fun project and I can't wait to see
it! I have a real laundry room for the first
time. I put a rack up and hang straw hats and
totes which I love. Also a beach picture my
husband took that we had put on canvas. A sisal
rug on the floor really works better than I
thought! It's a fun room to decorate!

Penny, I just finished reading your previous posts on your plans. You are ambitious! I like the idea of glass fronts on the cabinets. More display space. LOL
Your home is so beautiful. I love the light that streams in. Your library/loft area is where I'd like to spend some time. ~ Sarah

Do I love my laundry room? No. I agree that glass in a cabinet could add the sense of window or perhaps just an art print of outdoors would do as nicely...I like the ones with billowing white sheets.

My laundry room is my first floor bathroom, in the closet. Who on earth ever thought that was a good idea? It's not changing though, so I live with a messy bathroom most of the time. Oh well, just glad I have it at all!! Can't wait to see what you do.

You have a great space for your laundry Penny. Years ago we moved our laundry room to the basement and turned the old one into a mud room. I've never regretted it, but I have grand plans for the current laundry space. Can't wait to see what you do in yours.

Kim

I love that first photo, Penny. My laundry room is so small I can hardly turn around in it, but I'm happy I have one and I've decorated it with baskets, lots of hooks and a painted "laundry" sign.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours! So many ideas.

Hugs,
Donna

Your laundry is so nice!!! Mine is in the basement, improvements made are a table, trash can, and cleaning off the dryer top regularly, HAHAHA!

I'm sure whatever you decide it will look really good. I love the photo of the laundry hanging out on the line. I have some outside right now in the snow and all! Course the snow is melting fast with rain coming in soon.....then it will be a big mud mess, yuck!
