The Backyard Makeover

They other day I showed you a picture of a big machine in our backyard, digging up paths.

So here is how the backyard makeover has progressed so far.

Before

Below, you can see some paths and "rooms" created before the stone was laid.

Below, you can see where the pea gravel has been place in the paths and the "rooms".

In the picture below, we the flagstone has been layed in the "dining" room, and the furniture has been placed.  You can also see the twig chairs around a fire pit in the "living" room.

A closer picture of the flagstone, below.

We want to build a pergola around the dining/kitchen area below.  To the left of the table where there is gravel, but not flagstone that will be where the grill/cooking area will be.

This is an inspiration picture below.  Though I would love to have a fireplace, our fire pit will have to do.  And our pergola, will not be nearly as fancy, I'm sure.

But with sunsets like this one that I took pictures of last night from our backyard, I am sure the pergola we build will be just beautiful!

We also will be doing landscaping, weed killing mulch spreading and grass seed spreading between now and next summer.  And I am sure a lot of dreaming during the snowy winter.

I love to dream....don't you?  Do you have a fall or winter project, indoor or out that you are dreaming about?  I would love to know all about it!
I am linking this post with Susan at Met Monday.
Welcome Home,
Penny

Your backyard does look great. I am jealous because our grass in the back died and weeds took over. We have lots of work ahead next year. A pergola will look super out there.

Hi Penny, it looks fantastic! What a difference. I love the idea of different 'rooms'. We are working on a stone retaining wall in the front yard but that is a slow process, can't wait for it to be finished. Looks like you had a great day on your bloggers' brunch! There certainly were alot of you. It's so nice to people from the blogging world you otherwise would never have met! take care, Maryann

Penny! That looks so beautiful! It totally reminds me of a park we visited in England and I just love how it all flows together so seamlessly with your yard! It looks fabulous now so I can't even imagine how great it is going to look when its all said and done!

Holy cow! You are off to a great start Penny! I love your inspiration pic of the pergola, but what you have in real life is already awesome, so that will be the icing on the cake.

Penny, This is going to be a fabulous place to entertain next summer. Winter is a grand time to flip through seed and bulb catalogs and make plans for Spring/Summer. I especially love the fire pit/sitting area.

Penny, I really like how you have laid out "rooms" within your back yard. I want to something similar- I want as little grass to cut as possible! LOL What a great natural view you have. Yard work can be very demanding, so take it easy, ok? It will all come together like you want it, I'm sure.
Oh, and what fun you must have had at your luncheon and outing! Isn't it a ball to meet others with similar likes and tastes?

With sunsets like that you don't want to cover up the view. A pergola is perfect! Love what you're doing and I can't wait to see it all when it's finished. Now I wish we could get busy with our backyard makeover but we have to wait until next summer. The Fall rains are about to begin, followed by the Winter rains - we will be patient. Thanks for the inspiration!

Everything looks great outside Penny. I'm looking forward to the deck being closed in while we're gone this winter and coming back to decorate it. I know you're going to get a lot of use out of your outside spaces.

What a great transformation & area to dine, chat & relax! Love the concept of your "rooms"! I'm sure you'll enjoy it even more with a pergola & fire pit addition...and what a great place to sit & enjoy a glass of wine :-) Gorgeous sunset photos!

Your outside rooms are a great plan - and they are looking great, too.

We always have a "to do" list, and some of the "to dos" are small and some of them are much higher dollar. It is those high dollar "to dos" that take longer getting the desired "done" check next to them.

Hi Penny, I am so glad I was able to see this in person. It looks like a huge project and it was. The after is beautiful. A wonderful plan, did you design it?

My first company arrives today for the weekend. I am cooking and that's all today. I am ready for company. Smile.

Have a wonderful week.
Love, Jeanne

Wahy gorgeous sunsets where you are, Penny! Your backyard project turned out so well. I have a postage stamp sized backyard so my dreams are not so much garden projects but where is the next place I can travel to? I love to live vicariously through the places I visit. :)
