Summer Bounty and Weekend Plans

Summer Bounty

Picked from our garden last evening before supper.

We are taking a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway this weekend to Mt. Mitchell. Which is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River.  It will be about 20 degrees cooler there.  We are taking a picnic along.

I might even do a little spray painting this weekend on some garden "junque". :-)

What are you doing this weekend?

p.s. don't forget to enter my giveaway, by leaving a comment on the giveaway post, here. The winner will be announced Sunday.

Welcome Home,

  1. Your basket of vegetables looks so delicious and colorful.
Your weekend plans sounds wonderful. We have driven the Blue Ridge Parkway once and loved it. Can't wait to do it again sometime.

  2. Oh my goodness Penny. Yummy veggies fresh from the garden! Love it.

Your weekend trip sounds wonderful. I don't think there is a place in Missouri where we can find cooler temps. I imagine our weekend plans are to stay in the AC.

    Happy weekend!

  3. Sounds like a lovely getaway Penny. Enjoy! No plans for the weekend here - just the way I like it!

  4. That sounds like fun. Hope you have a great time. We have my husbands work picnic and our town is having a festival of food tomorrow. Should be fun!

  5. The weather is supposed to be perfect here, so I'm happy because we're having Dinner in the Garden for 30 on Saturday night. Sunday?....I think I'll just enjoy a good read beside the ponds.

  6. Isn't it exciting when you pick your first veggies of the season? I'll bet you had one beautiful salad!!

It sounds like you have a wonderful and cool weekend planned. Good for you, Penny! :-)

  7. Penny, how wonderful to just go out in your garden and bring in fresh veggies. We have been to Mt. Mitchell before. That cooler weather sure will feel good in this heat. Have fun!

  8. Please hand over that basket of veggies!

Our 13 yo Granddaughter is spending the weekend with us. We'll cook, eat, play games and enjoy her company.

  9. Wow, Penny isn't gardening fun? We leave tomorrow for camping and my sister will probably eat our first ripe tomato? Darn. such is life.

    Theses veggies look sooo good.

I tried to leave you a comment earlier this week twice and it wouldn't go through. I had a good chuckle when you said Mr. Comfort is weakening for a pup like Cheri'. She is the darling of our hearts. We love the breeder because she socializes all of her puppies. Cheri' loves everyone.

    Have a wonderful week.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  10. It involves "blue" and a paintbrush in the bathroom. I'd rather be going on a picnic.

  11. Yummy stuff from the garden - doesn't get much better than that - enjoy !
20 degrees cooler sounds pretty awesome too - lol !

Nothing planned here for the weekend - hubby works 7 days, so every day is the same. I'm hoping to get a few more projects finished up before the wedding though : /

    have a wonderful weekend,

  12. Being some place cooler sounds really good right now! I can't wait for fall. I've had about all I can take of this heat and it's not even August yet!

Your veggies look great! We're trying to finish up a few things in our family room. I have one wall of baseboards to paint. Unfortunately, my husband leaves for California on Sunday for a week so I'm sure we'll be spending part of Saturday getting him ready to go!

  13. Enjoy your weekend and the cooler weather in the mountains. Eat a tomato for me!

  14. Those vegs look so good!!! My Father in law went a couple of weeks ago and it was 60 degrees up there!!!! Take a coat just in case!!! Have fun!

  15. Mmm, a picnic in the mountains sounds so heavenly! Instead I will be shopping for a new fridge :>{ and maybe, hopefully squeeze in a little sewing. lucky you to have veggies already. The only thing ready in my garden is basil. Enjoy your weekend!

  18. Your tomatoes look delicious. We have a bounty of them too. Enjoy Mt. Mitchell. The kids are here visiting and I am going to Cary to babysit next week. I have been neglecting my blog.

  19. Penny, we are heading into the "loop" for dinner. Hope we don't get caught up in the filming of "Transformers"!! Truthfully, I would rather be heading up on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a picnic. It's where my husband and I had our second date (30 years ago).
I miss my mountains! Have a wonderful time.

Loved peeking into your basket. We have another week or so to wait for tomatoes but are enjoying squash and cucumbers.

  20. Penny, can't wait to see what you paint!! I love the Blue Ridge Parkway.

  21. Penny your produce from your garden is wonderful! Love the yellow tomatoes! I've never had one, are they acid free? Enjoy your ride along the parkway!

your harvest is wonderful, really delicious looking :)

  23. Hi Penny!
I just came back from the Smokies a couple weeks ago and it is so incredible there!! The mountains are so calming and peaceful.

  24. I'll be right over for a tomato sandwich!♥

We are having a rather quiet weekend. And, we finally got a bit of rain yesterday afternoon. It made my heart happy.

  25. Your veggies look delicious! I didn't put a veggie garden in this year and miss it dearly. My weekend plans include a little antiquing/junking trip with a friend.
