Here is another Before and After post. This is the "Formal" living room.
BEFORE
This room was painted the darkest color in the house when we bought it.
And here is the AFTER
As you can see, we are NOT "formal" people. So keeping this small room just for company didn't make any sense. So we turned it into a TV room. It is usually just Mr. Comforts of Home and me watching TV. But if we have another couple, we can always move the two red chairs around. The ottomans are on rollers, so they can be moved out of the way, or turned into a coffee table with a tray on top if needed.
The room is quite small and has openings of some sort on three sides, so furniture arrangement is difficult. In the view above I am standing in front of the TV. You can see how close the room is to the front door and dining room.
In the picture above I am standing by the front door. See the great room to the very right of the picture? These rooms are right next to each other and there are two openings into the great room.
The front wall has a bay area with windows that go right to the floor. So the arrangement we have is probably the best we can do. We are planning on possibly hanging the TV on the wall to free up some space. We can then set a table between the two red chairs. The TV equipment would go into a closet.
We have only put one painting up. We are waiting to decide whether the TV gets hung on the wall or not. And eventually we will get an area rug to cozy up the space. Right now the rooms have just the bare bones....nothing personal, yet....As time goes on I am looking forward to adding the layers that will make this house a home.
Welcome Home,
Penny

Well it looks like an amazing and cosy home to me already! Penny your home is wonderful! I definitely love the light walls, must more than those dark ones!! :)
Easily one of the most gorgeous homes I've ever seen! It is so inviting. Can't wait to watch the layers appear :) I can just imagine how much it's going to 'cozy up'!
I love the new paint color and it's a very pretty room. Adore those bay windows as well.
I think it is much better to use the space than to have a formal room that never gets used. It would be a difficult roomt o arrange with all those doorways but you have done a great job. I am struck buy how open and sunny your home is looking into the entry and dining room. How beautiful!
Your house is just gorgeous. I love how bright and cheery it is. Beautiful. Hugs, Marty
Hi Penny!
Your new home is looking so wonderful and cozy! Today the name of the game is Comfortable. It's been great visiting you!

I have really enjoyed finding your blog! I love the simplicity of the way you decorate and I have gotten MANY ideas!! What is the container your umbrellas are in?
Penny, I like the room with the 4 chairs. It looks nice and serves it's purpose as a TV room. Plus, I bet it makes a nice "talking" room too, since it is close to your great room and front door area. Love your red color. Your home has such great windows and lots of light. Love & blessings from NC!
This room is beautiful, so is your house.
Your house is really coming together, this room looks so pretty. I am a big fan of yellow and red together. So much natural light and I can see a bit of snow out there!

I remember you talking about this space when I visited - wow, it looks so different now, cozy, comfy and perfect as the TV room. You and K have continued to make the house a home, it's gorgeous Penny.
It looks so cozy Penny. I love it. I love the paint color that you chose. It made it appear so much bigger. That dark brown was way too dark. I love it.
Hugs,
Lee Laurie
Hi Penny - great way to use that room! I agree that hanging the TV will be a good move, and perhaps building a bit of a bookcase/china cabinet around and under it might work too. Have fun!
Beautiful room Penny - and practical too! I love the picture on the wall. Red and yellow is one of my favorite color combos too.

Hi Penny, I just love your house! I love your entry and the colours you picked to paint it. We are not very 'formal' people either and even though I will have a formal lounge it will get used everyday! Your TV room is looking great and I would never have thought the red could look so good with those colours! Your'e doing a wonderful job, truly inspiring. take care, Maryann

What a beautiful home you have. I just came across your blog from BNOTP and admire your style. I was wondering what the paint color is in your "new" living room and entry. It looks like a pale yellow.
