Snow Day!

Yippee!!! A snow day! I know if you are from up north you must be ready to move on to spring....but we get so little snow here in NC I just love it when it happens!

This cement rooster is covered in about 10 inches of snow in my backyard.

The cardinals look exceptionally brilliant red when it snows, don't they? This guy and the little wren are enjoying an afternoon snack.

Well, I am off to sit by the cozy fire with a cup of hot cocoa and a good decorating book. The beef short ribs on cooking on the stove and the house smells wonderful.

Hope you are able to take a snow day too.

Welcome Home,
Penny

  3. Wow...you DID get a lot of snow. And, yes, the red of the cardinal is breathtaking.
Enjoy your fire and cocoa...you have been working so hard! You are, in fact, the workingest woman I've EVER seen. You have accomplished so much on your new home in a SHORT time. It is awesome!

  5. What great photos! The cardinal is so striking with the gorgeous snow in the background. My youngest daughter is in NC. I wonder if they had snow, too!

  6. Very cute photo! Enjoy your snow day. This "up north" gal is very practical and knows that spring will not arrive much before May. ;>

  8. Love your picture with the cardinal. I have been trying to take a picture of my cardinals all day, but have only caught the wrens out eating so far. My squirrels have not even made an appearance! Glad you are enjoying your snow day. I have been cleaning today. I love being snowed in. Love & blessings from NC!

  9. The cardinal and the rooster are both stunning in the snow. It looks so pretty when it is so white and fluffy. Stay warm. Hugs, Marty

The cardinal is beautiful with snowy background.

    Stay warm!

  11. You actually have more snow than we do right now Penny! It really is pretty and after all the work you have put into the house, you deserve some down time with hot cocoa and a book:>)

  14. I'm not one to ever have snow-envy ....lived in the north long enough! I too have had a lovely day by the fire, reading and napping. No cooking for me though, as we're heading for friends' for dinner.

  15. Hi Penny, just wanted to stop by and tell you how much I have enjoyed your blog. I have been following it for quite some time and have enjoyed the transformation of your new home. You are one hard working woman. My husband and I built our house ourselves fourteen years ago. Just wanted to let you know I have jumped into blogland today with my first post. I still have a lot to learn on this computer. My daughter had to come over and help me, but hopefully it will get easier in time. No snow here, but we did get ice on the trees. Just cold and wet and gray here. I get so excited when we get snow which is not very often. Enjoy your cocoa and that warm fire...Kim

  16. We have had a lot of snow this year (WV). But I like it. I like the chnage in seasons...they all have their own good (and bad) qualities. Enjoy your snow!

  17. Yes, I have to smile at your delight with the snow. I love it too (good thing, since I'm in Maine), and share your enthusiasm. Great pictures! You have more snow on the ground right now than we do. We lost most of ours to rain earlier in the week, and none in the near forecast. Now we're having bone-chilling coooold. Not much charming about that. I just keep sipping hot tea and hot chocolate! Wool socks, wool sweaters and call the dog over to snooze at my feet....

  18. You got a lot more snow than us - just 5" here topped with a sugar crust of sleet. The brightness hurts one's eyes to look too long - and now here at 11 AM I see some melting in the sunlight........but oh so cold tonight again and of course a refreeze.
Love your feeder pic - I showed a new visitor to the front porch this morning - I was thrilled.

Stay snug and warm up there in the mountains dear Penny.

  19. We are loving all the snow here as well. We ended up with about 6 inches here. They were calling for 12 inches but the snow changed over to sleet and that it did...all day. The roads are a mess. No church today...staying warm and cozy inside!

  20. I love your snow pics. We are sadly out of snow this year! Last year we had record ammounts. I miss it. Thank you for sharing yours. The rooster looks cozy in his snow blanket.

  22. Penny, your photos are so pretty. I am posting snow pictures tomorrow.

We got ten inches, and we are showing now signs of melting around our house. I sure hope they declare a severe weather day at work tomorrow. I don't know how I would make it.
