Shopping Around With Blog Friends and Kitty Bartholomew

Remember last year, when I showed you a post about a table lamp that I bought because I fell in love with the one in Kitty Bartholomew's living room in her decorating book? You can read that post by clicking here. Right now that table is sitting in my living room - not the great room and I still love it!

Well anyway, I also fell in love with the vintage bocce balls she had in a bowl on her living room coffee table. See the picture below for both the table lamp and the bowl of colorful balls pictured in Kitty's book.

Well a few days ago a blogging friend, Becky from Sweet Cottage Dreams showed some vintage croquet balls on her blog. I didn't realize it at first but she was selling them in her ETSY shop!

I thought they were very close to the bocce balls that Kitty Bartholomew had, so I bought them. They came today and I LOVE them! Now I am on the hunt for a few more including some blue ones. I have a larger vintage wood dough bowl that I can place them in when I get a larger collection.

Inspiration....it can come from decorating books, tv shows, magazines and blog friends....
Where do you find your inspiration?
Welcome Home,
Penny

Crochet balls, how perfectly wonderful. Your home looks so lovely and inviting. I used to love Katie Bartholomew's television segments on TV years ago. She has such style, and so do you.

I love that book. I want one of those built in beds that she shows in her office/studio. Your floor lamp is wonderful. Mimi

Love, love, love them! Now I've got to watch for some as I thrift and shop around. I've always loved Kitty Bartholomew's touch and I miss her on TV. Loved seeing how she transformed a home with such ease. What a talented gal! ~Adrienne~

I miss Kitty's Show as well ... and while I have enjoyed those programs, I do have to say, that not until I got on your blog, Penny, did I really realize how interested I was in this!! It is just a calming "get away"! You are the inspiration, Penny! and I thank you!

Those look so good on your table Penny and adding some blue will be perfect! I find that most of my inspiration comes from my sweet blog friends these days. There are so many amazingly talented women out here and you are one of my favorite inspirations :)

Wow, they look great, Penny. Nice idea.

I get a lot of inspiration from magazines, antique shops, and tv shows. I'm always looking for something new!

Very cute! You are right about inspiration coming in different forms and your blog is one of them! I always wanted to get some of those glass balls I saw all over in Alaska that they use for bobbers or something like that.

This is so cute. I remember playing croquet when I was younger...that is such a good idea!

Yes, it's a good look...love the colors, which are faded a bit. Nothing like being knocked around a bit to give them a patina to put on display.

Penny, I'd rather have the vintage croquet balls anyway. These are perfect! I loved playing croquet as a child. Wish I had a spot to play now, but no lawn.

I used to get most of my ideas from magazines, books and HGTV decorating shows.
Since I have been blogging, I find I buy less magazines and books and HGTV decorating shows have changed so much, I don't watch much anymore.
I get a lot of great ideas and inspiration from the blogs I follow.

Penny,

As soon as I read your "Kopy Kitty" post, I had to run out and buy Kitty's book - I love it and also love your lamp table. The croquet balls look great and I agree all that you need now is a blue one!

Thanks for the continued inspiration!

HI Penny,
Your home is so lovely, and that is so clever! I've been loving the idea of a bowl or basket filled with balls of some type - and never even thought of the croquet balls we have sitting in the garage. I am sorry, I have to borrow (steal!) your idea!!
BTW - I saw that you were featured over at the Katillac Shack - good for you and congrats!

The croquet balls make a cute little touch of color Penny! I hope you can find more. I think the best part would be thinking of Becky whenever you see them:>) I get my decorating inspiration from books, magazines and blogs. I sometimes wonder if it isn't too much input becasue I see so many beautiful rooms it can be confusing to my own sense of style, but I keep on looking because I love a beautiful room whether it's mine or not!

What a great idea! Isn't it fun to have the little things come together to make the room whole? I will keep my eye out for you.

Hi Penny, I just scrolled down to catch up on all your posts I have missed. WOW, your fireplace is gorgeous. A beautiful makeover that is awesome. Your antiquing on the mantel and corbels looks perfect for the effect that you were wanting. A great choice of colors. The great room is lovely right down to every detail. I love the later addition of the balls. I love those vintage croquet balls. I enlarged every photo...awesome.

I want to congratulate you for being honored as a Shackster. Your DIY sounds so easy. I know it isn't, at least for me. HA! I signed up for the giveaway. I loved the blog. A new place to visit. Thank you for such a nice giveaway opportunity.

Have a wonderful day.
Love and hugs, Jeanne

Penny, I saw some blue and white ceramic balls for sale in Cracker Barrel. They were either 2.99 or 3.99. They were gorgeous, but not the look you have here. I actually thought of Rhondi when I saw them.

Hi Penny
I remember that article before and yours look so cool too! Her home is lovely isn't it....I am inspired by what I see in other homes done by my friends and my blogging friends, magazines and books the most. TV is great too. I love to have a cup of coffee in the morning and looked through decorating books I have. I always get an aha moment of inspiration and pickup. Love that.

Hope your week is going well!
Come by and visit me tomorrow and see what I've done. I am mentioning you....

have a nice rest of the evening..

Don't have bocce or croquet balls but have several other types (woven straw, grapevine etc.) which I love to stack in urns or my long French wooden dough bowl.

Oh Kitty B., I miss you and your fabulous HGTV show. I miss all those older shows on decorating - the House Hunters and all those ridiculous shows now featured have nothing to do with decorating.....and the few that do are stupid because there's no way one can really makeover a room in a day!

Blogger wouldn't allow me to comment yesterday when I tried....so you're getting them all today Penny dear.

I miss Kitty B. also. I am not getting the color and charm with the latest HGTV Shows.

I loved watching Kitty on tv, and I also have her book. She did amazing things without a lot of craziness that they show these days.
