One of my sisters is here visiting this week and another sister arrives next week. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 5 minutes from my new house. Today we packed a picnic of Brie, fresh apples, crisp white wine and a baguette and went for a drive on the Parkway to see the fall leaves.
We traveled to Mount Mitchel, which is the highest peak east of the Mississippi at 6684 feet above sea level.

As we left the parking lot to hike up to the observatory tower we saw snow!!

And someone had made this cute little snow man. It stood about 12 inches tall and had a moss hat. (you can click on the pictures to enlarge)

Love, love, love the floor! And oh those mountains~sigh~!
The first time I was on Mt. Mitchell, I was about four, and my dad about drove off the mountain with his little pop-up tent-trailer trying to park in the dark. The second time was about 13 years ago and I had a migraine and we encountered a hailstorm, two days after we'd just picked up our brand-new Taurus wagon. And the third time was a few years ago when dear daughter was making a college visit to Montreat, and THAT was a lovely day in October! Love your photos, always. And I loooove your tile!
I get goosebumps knowing you are that close to the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway! Wonderful post, Penny! My friend Gwyn is over at Nags Head this week. I should tell her to come home, via the pkwy, so she can see some snow!:-)
I love your tile floor!!
Wow, Mt. Mitchell is beautiful! I can't believe there is snow already, and what a cute snowman. How nice to have your sister with you.
Love the tiles!
Hugs,
Donna
I got butterflies in my stomach, looking out over the mountains in your pic's. I miss living there! Your black and white tile is gorgeous!
Hi Penny,
How wonderful for you and your sisters to have a chance to visit. I bet its a nice brake from all the painting and cleaning!.
I do love the black and white flooring, very retro.
Everything looks like its coming along beautifully!.
Enjoy your day,
Elizabeth
I was laughing at your post, Penny. The views from the mountaintop are truly beautiful! But where I live in Colorado, my house is at basically the same altitude as Mt Mitchell. And we have snow on our yard (which is unusual this early in the season, but winter seems to be hitting early anyway.) Etc!
Your house is coming along beautifully, but we all knew it would because you have such fabulous taste! Love checking in on your blog!
:-) Marilyn
The view from Mt. Mitchell is always glorious. Are you seeing a lot of leaf color around you?
Love the tile. Have fun with your sister.
I am in LOVE with that tile Penny! I want to put it in our kitchen, but it'll have to wait until we get the other 4 billion projects done LOL
The picnic sounded as wonderful as the views you had :)

That tile is perfect in that bathroom Penny! Love it! And sounds like a great visit w/ your sisters. I think I might steal your idea to go on a picnic w/ the hubby and bring some of the items you mentioned - especially the brie and wine - my faves! (Next week is our anniversary!)
Hugs to you,
Shelley
That looks very nice! And I love your photos! Time for us to drive up there, too! Did you stop at Earth Fare for your snacks? What fun!

Penny,
My sister and I love your blogs so much. MY in-laws just moved from your neck of the woods after 15 years. I really loved all the time we spent visiting them. Your homes, both of them remind me so much of what they had when they were there. Your mosaics and your decorating are truly lovely. Thanks for sharing.
L.O.V.E. that tile, Penny. You knew I would, tho!! :)
Beautiful country and i know the picnic was wonderful.
Beautiful scenery! We are headed to Hendersonville on Saturday for apples.....just a VERY fast day trip but I am REALLY looking forward to it!

My family has camped there Penny in the summer and it was sooooooo cold. We had to go back down the mountain and buy warm weather clothes. Oh it was cold! At least that's what I remember. I was only like 13.
