Road Trip

A couple of weekends ago, in between trying to buy our new home we took a break...a road trip. We drove to the Raleigh area of NC to visit one of our sons and grandchildren. It is a 5 hour drive and we left on Saturday morning and came home Sunday night.

The weather was beautiful Saturday. The fog was lifting and the sun was shining on the mountains as we headed out.

After arriving we went to lunch and then headed to a great local park. This park has a vintage carousel, a pond with paddle boats, a train to ride and a lot more. I convinced my two grandsons to paddle their grandma around the pond. It was hard work....

But the views were just beautiful.

After the boat ride, we needed refreshments. And what else do you get on a 95 degree summer day, than BLUE RASPBERRY SNOW CONES? Not in those silly paper cones, but in a CUP...yummy! Have you had one lately? It will bring you right back to your childhood.

We did a few more things....then sadly it was the next day and we headed home. In the rain.

It was a wonderful weekend and we are looking forward to going back again soon. What have you done for fun this summer? Have you had a SNOW CONE? Gone camping? Fishing? Beaching? I would love to know what your summer fun is!
Welcome Home,
Penny

How wonderful that you could spend time with your boys! We paddle boated with the girls for Victorias birthday last month and of course, Earl and I just got back from canoing down the Mad River in Ohio:>) We love the water in summer but we don't live on a lake so it is a treat to get out on it.

What fun! I always loved snow cones ...remember suicide snow cones where they put everything in one! lol I've gone to every festival I can find and some music at the park. Hopefully we will get to go to the Flower Carpet at the Biltmore next week. I love summer time in the mountains! Enjoy the cool evening!

Penny: I've been following your house hunt and just love your new house! A house that big and nice would be a fortune here in California!!!! Tell me something At the festival you showed a bottle tree. I've seen them before on shows and they seem to be indigenous to the South. My question is, what are they for or what do they represent. I like them but would like to know more.

Can't wait to see more pictures.

Hi Penny, your visit to Raleigh sounds like so much fun. We also have a son who lives in Raleigh. Your photos are wonderful and the paddle boat ride sounds divine.

I saw your bathroom diva photo on Sheila's blog. It is a good pic of you. She is a hoot and I love her humor. Congrats on your new 'Diva' status. lol.

Are you packing yet???

Hi Penny, looks like you guys had a great trip! I love snow cones. In fact, I just recently bought a snow cone maker and I had to stock up on all the blue favors, they seem to be the grandkids favorite!

Good morning Penny, yes, the gardens are amazing. I still have some good pics to share next Weds. I hope to see the flower carpet this year. We have been knocking ourselves out in the yard. Having a long summer vacation has it's drawbacks. We planted 4 double pink knockout roses and I want to post them if I can dress up the bed. Mulch edging etc. needs ro be done. Things are looking lots better though.

I can see that tray you are working on is going to be beautiful. How far away is your new home from Ashville? I know your new workspace will be very nice.

Have a wonderful day.

Hugs...Jeanne

Hi Penny,
What a great visit you had with the kids and now your sister is visiting. I love when my sister comes to visit we go to all the antique stores and shop too.
I am happy to hear that the house purchase is coming along, soon it will be all behind you and you can just keep your mind on setting up your studio and home.
Enjoy your time with the sister.

Hello Penny,

I've had fun this summer moving into our mountain home..I finally got here full time on May 1st...and have been remodeling ever since!

I've been meaning to comment on the home you two have found..It is lovely and you will have a goodd time making it your own!..our home was a foreclosure as well..luckily (unlike the others we looked at) the appliances and light fixtures were still intact. But I've since starting replacing all of them to something of my taste.

We wound up with much more than we had planned and that makes us very happy especially in these *crazy times*.

Have a great day and do stop by for a visit when you have a moment.

Looks like you had a great trip, Penny. I've paddled those same boats at the park that you were at in Raleigh. It's a fun place.

My favorite summer fun is the beach. I love the ocean.

HI Penny
Spoending time with the grandchildren is always the best way to spend some of summer! I will getting a chance to do that soon and I can't wait!

I looked at all your home updates and I am blown away by how big and beautiful it is! You are going to have so much fun decorating it! I'm sure having such a big studio will be such a plus for you. Best of luck with it! I look forward to seeing it come to life on your blog.

We camped in our 1969 travel trailer that we just purchased. We went camping just in time to celebrate it's 40th birthday. The camper is still a work in progress but we had SO much fun and look forward to many other trips.

Hi Penny,
Looks like y'all had a fun time! We haven't been anywhere this summer. I had a vacation last week but I stayed home and worked on my little cottage. We may go to the mountains this fall. I get one more week of vacation then.
Hugs,
Lee Laurie
