House Tour Part One

Are you ready to start the house tour to my new home (well hopefully ours...)? As of this morning we are still waiting in the inspection report. We should receive it sometime today.

First I would like to introduce you to our Realtors. This is Lauretta and Fitz Sthreshley. They work with Keller Williams Realty in Hendersonville, NC. They were the Realtors I used to sell my current home as well as house hunt for my new home. I highly recommend them!!

On to the tour!! You can click on any picture to enlarge. Here is the front door. I love the transom windows. You will see them throughout the house.

When you walk in the front door, the stairway is straight ahead and leads you up to the second floor. We will go there some other day.

To the left of the stairway is the formal living room. I am changing all of the colors in the house. This one is a muddy olive brown.

To the right of the stairway is a matching room. This is the formal dining room. I can't believe they painted over the paneling around the bottom of the room. Both the dining room and formal living room have bay windows.

This is a picture taken looking into the kitchen eating area, with another bay window.

This is the family room. I love the built ins around the fireplace, but the TV opening is too small for our tv so we will have to reconfigure that.

Another shot of the family room.

Above the family room is a mezzanine. I am thinking of turning that into a library/reading nook.

The kitchen below. We are painting the kitchen cabinets and putting up a tile back splash. We will also change out the lights hanging over the breakfast bar. For some reason they put floor tile on the back side of the breakfast bar. We will remove that. The corbels that are under the bar at too small, so we will replace them too. I would love to find some vintage ones at a architectural salvage store.

Another shot of the kitchen. I am so excited that this house has natural gas to cook on. I have used electric for the last several years, but I LOVE cooking with gas.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the house is so filthy! The floors might need to be refinished, it is hard to tell until they are cleaned.
Well, that's it for today...come back tomorrow for more pictures!
Welcome Home,
Penny

Oh Penny, what a gorgeous gorgeous blank canvas for someone as talented as you are to decorate. It looks incredible already, but with your husbands gift and your decorating, I just can't wait to see what the two of you do with this. I love the family room. Cooking in the kitchen with a view of the family room is so wonderful when you have guests over. That dining room is lovely and the built-ins around that fireplace will certainly make for a cozy spot in the winter.

You deserve all the best, Penny. This morning when I woke up, I thought, Penny is going to show the inside of that house. This was so much fun!

Hi Penny
What a fabulous house! Love all the bay windows. You are going to have fun putting your personal stamp on it. Just like Karen said, it is a blank canvas just waiting for the artist's strokes to bring it alive. What great bones it has too. I am so happy for you!

Hi Penny,
Love it!. I have the transom windows too and they do bring in the light. What a great open floor plan with lots of great molding. It is odd that the owners tiled under the counter, maybe for kick proofing the wall.I would change that too.How fun for you to have such a great home to decorate and make special with the "Penny Touch". Looking forward to seeing more. I just couldn't be more happy for you.
Enjoy your day,
Elizabeth

This house has great bones. It's beautiful and has so much potential. I can't see one thing that a little elbow grease and a few gallons of paint won't fix. I know it will be even more beautiful after you put your decorating touches on it. :)

Woo hoo! It's so pretty to start with and I can't wait to see your french country touches.

Hi Penny, I love your new home. I have always loved Bay windows. This is one of the few homes we built that didn't have one or more. You really can't tell that the house isn't clean. I'll take your word on it. The design is lovely and I can see why you like it so much. I'll be back to see more.

You are going to have so much fun decorating this house. I actually like the paint color in the family room. But you are right, they must have had a dinky television. They probably put the tile up on the back of the counter by the bar stools so the kids didn't kick the wood.

Maybe you'll give us a tutorial on painting kitchen cupboards. I'd love to do mine but I am so chicken (and not talented with paint) to do it.

That is absolutely gorgeous and doesn't look at all "filthy", sweetpea! But I DO understand. Oh, how I would love fixing that one up to my style. Love the wood floors especially.

Your right I guess it would be hard to tell from the photos that the house is filthy. Because from here it doesn't look like that at all. My God Penny the house looks fabulous with all the space and with all those great windows, especially the bay windows. I could go on and on about all the things I love about this house. I'm so looking forward in what your going to do with it concerning the decorations. I am so happy for you and I know your going to have fun. This is like watching house hunters which I enjoy very much.

Take Care

Looks like you've found a beautiful new home Penny. It has gorgeous trim work. We had to add pretty trim to all of our rooms and it makes such a difference.

I too love gas, but only on the top. I prefer an electric oven, mainly because it broils so much better. Are you keeping the red walls? I like them. It looks in remarkable shape for a foreclosure.
