Well, sadly, I decided to wash it first to try to get rid of the few stains on it. So I washed it in cold water, gentle cycle with Woolite and Oxiclean. That was a HUGE mistake. The Oxiclean faded the colors. The red turned to orange...the ocean blue to a pale blue. There were streaks and runs on much of it.
Luckily, I was able to salvage some of the feed sack. Instead of 4 pillows, I made 2. The colors are a lot more faded than I had hoped.

Here are the two pillows....

Welcome Home,
Penny

Hi Penny....there is a woman on ebay that I buy my vintage linen from and she said the same thing. She handles hers VERY carefully. I have learned to trust over the past few years...
No matter...they are still wonderfully country! I have had a few lessons like that in my lifetime too! :)
I love your pillows...Rachel Ashwell would adore them!! :)
Hugs,
Mona
Oh Penny! You're not alone! I have done the same thing... mistakes happen. But I think the pale colors turned out to be a lot more charming on those pillows. They're gorgeous! Looks great on the wicker chairs. Have a great day! Vanessa
I made the mistake of washing vintage fabric once. Carefully, I thought, but it weakened the fabric so much it ripped. I think your pillows turned out great, even if they aren't as bright as you hoped.
I'm so surprised! Usually the inks used long ago were more colorfast. They still look great though. Being faded makes them look more vintage;>)
Penny, I think they look great! They really look more vintage now. I love them! nancy
They still look wonderful! I love them!
Cute, Penny! I want to find a wonderul feedsack with black lettering and am on the lookout. I've seen several on eBay, but I have got to have the right thing. Looks like you were very successful with your hunt. These are cute as can be!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Hi Penny,
I think they look great and they are fresh and clean!.
I love your pillows.
Take care and enjoy your day,
Elizabeth
Love, love, love these cute pillows! Great job!
They still look wonderful.
I actually like the faded look, more of a vintage feel…
I cannot tell you how many times I have done the same…

Morning girl...I love the faded look..they look more vintagey to me! lol I have had that happen to me a time or two in the past..but the one memory that does stick with me from such instances was when I was a little girl..mama had a glorious pull over sweater made of cashmere..she decided to wash it ever so gently one day and that thing shrunk so small it wouldn't even fit my doll! lol lol Oh my word I can still see that sweater in my mind and the tears in mama's eyes when she looked at it! lol
Thanks for coming by Penny...hope you have a fantastic weekend girl!
You're right, Penny. They are still pretty and lovable.
My mother had saved one of my baby blankets, and years ago I decided I would lay it across the chair in our guest room. Of course I had to launder it. Well, that thing was wool, and it came out barely large enough to cover a doll.
They are still adorable! You did a great job.
Hi Penny
The pillows look good even though they faded. Biz is what I use on vintage fabrics. It gets it clean without fading.
Hope you have a good weekend.
hugs, Rhondi
The pillows look great. I actually like the faded look. Where I live, we purchase our flour in sacks, they have a couple of different designs like Red Rose and Blue Bird. I was surprised to see how bright the colors were and how much they faded upon washing. I still love them though! Great job! Thanks for sharing your creativity :)
Have a blessed weekend!

Since you had a "vision" in your head of what you wanted, I'm sure you are disappointed but I really like the fabric faded. As others said, they look time-worn and oh-so-soft this way. Cute, cute, cute!
I thought Oxiclean was suppose to be color-safe but I ruined a fairly new tee shirt when I attempted to remove a spot on it by using Oxiclean. Lesson learned about Oxiclean! (R.I.P. Billy Mays.)
I actually like the sacks a little faded. They look great on your chairs too.

Penny, I just don't know how you do it. These are so professional looking and what flair.
What a wonderful memory to have, of your parents dancing to such a romantic song.
I hope your package arrives today. Have a beautiful weekend.
Karen
I actually like it faded better! They are cute!
Those turned out adorable! Thanks for sharing the finished pillows! :)
Hi Penny, I love the colors and print in that sack. That is to bad it faded but it really looks very nice with the faded blue, more vintage looking! I think they turned out beautiful!
~Ann
Penny, I still think they look very sweet!
Oh too bad, but they still came out very pretty!
Manuela

Oh, I still love them, Penny.
I did the same thing once and was just sick. It was a vintage country, cotton bonnet that my daughter was going to wear in a play she was in. It was black and white ck.d and needed washing...I gently washed it but used soap and I guess it was too strong..turned the black to purple. She wore it anyuway but, like you, I sure learned my lesson.
I still love your pillows, tho.
I think they still look beautiful!
I like the faded look. Adorable to me, even with the little washing incident.
I love how those pillows turned out. Gorgeous! I've signed up to be a follower. :)
