A Day on the Water

The last couple of days we have had my husbands sister and her husband visiting. We had a wonderful time, eating, antiquing and eating some more! On their last day here, yesterday we drove a couple of hours away to Tennessee and rented a boat for the day.

The lake is called Watagua. You can click on the link to find out more about it. It is part of the TVA and of the 104 miles of shoreline only 47 can be built on. The rest is public land including the Cherokee National Forest.

Here we are leaving the marina. Please click on the pictures to enlarge - it is so beautiful!

Look how calm the lake is. I love the mountains surrounding the lake. As you can see, there is very little boat traffic on this lake.

Here is another view behind us...still no other boats. We felt like we had the lake to ourselves for the day.

Here we are....hubbie and me.

This is one of the few homes on the lake. Because most of the shoreline is public, not private land and the terrain is so steep, there are not very many homes to spoil the beautiful views.

We did see a few boats...here is a sail boat.

We brought along a picnic and ate on the boat. It was a lovely day. I grew up living on a lake in Michigan and really miss living on the water. There is just something so relaxing about being on the water....
Welcome Home,
Penny

Oh Penny, you and your husband look so in love...there are practically stardust overhead. I love how you photographed the lake, because it makes you feel like you are right there. What a glorious view of those mountains. Wow, a drive to Tennessee, now there is inspiration! Have a wonderful day.

This is so gorgeous. I absolutely love TN. I saw a sailboat in our cove yesterday and happily got a photo.

Truman lake is north of Lake of the Ozarks. Sometimes, during flood, the gates are opened and water empties into Lake of the Ozarks. There is a connection, in other words. No building is allowed on Truman...leaving all the natural beauty.

One of the reasons we bought this particular place is, it's surrounded by state park land, so our view across the cove, will remain.

Penny, this is is a gorgeous lake. I love all the surrounding mountains and hills. And the water looks so calm. Yes, I believe it would quite a peaceful boat trip with little traffic and nothing but beautiful scenery. How nice!! And it's nice that the lakeshore is mostly preserved.

I'm glad you had a nice day (love the picture of you and hubs!) and a great time with family!

Hello Penny, I love your lake post and your photos are so lovely. It makes me want to be there. You both look like 'life is good.' We did lots of boating when we lived in FL. However, the mountain lakes are so calming and serene. In FL there was always so much activity such as water skiing etc. We loved it then. Now, give me a mountain lake any day.

I scrolled down and the painting of the red gerainiums is fab! Lucky you and I love where you put it.

You won't believe this but we will be gone for another 10 days. We have an Elderly aunt who is failing in Lexington, KY to visit. Then back to Kansas City for a baseball game. Bill has several cyber friends who are meeting there to have a gathering. It is from his sports forum which he has been doing for over 20 years. Plus we will see his sister again for a few days. I really just want to stay home!!!

Have a wonderful day.

Until the next time???

Hi Penny,

Loved your post! We have a cabin on Watauga Lake and just love it there. The cabin, and bunkhouse, was purchased by my parents when I was a little girl. Our cabin is secluded in the trees and not able to be seen by boaters. We do have a floating dock so we know where home is! We are up at the northern end of the lake, closest to NC.

I loved seeing my second home through another s eyes.

Penny,
Beautiful pictures of a beautiful day. Watauga lake reminds me of Lake Lure. Once you have grown up around Michigan lakes it stays in your system. I have had computer problems lately - hard drive crash, so I am catching up. Looking forward to getting together again.
Hugs,
Penny
