A Day Antiquing

On Tuesday I did two favorite things....I met another blogging friend and we went antiquing! Gretchen has a blog called Bird Nest Cottage. She lives in Greenville, SC and I live in Hendersonville NC. We are only about an hour away from each other. The first time we met was a few months ago. I drove to Greenville and we went antiquing. This time, I was the host and Gretchen came to my home town.
We started at one of my favorite places. I mean, with a name like NEEDFUL THINGS, how could you not want to shop there? It is two stories tall and filled with wonderful things.
Next, we went downtown for lunch at a great restaurant called Never Blue. They have tapas, salads, sandwiches soup and so much more. As you can see, we ran into some Red Hat ladies there.

I love their bar area. It is covered in mosaics! Click on the picture above to enlarge for detail.
Are you wondering what I bought while antiquing? My quest was for some blue covered vintage garden or flower books. Remember this post?

Well, I found some great ones and also some with red covers too!

Hope you all are having a great week!
Welcome Home,

  1. Penny,

I am so glad you & Gretchen had a great time together! I wish I had more blogger friends in the Midwest to meet up with sometime, but then again I have only been blogging a short time and I'm grateful for all of the friends I have made already.

Yes, you must have been in heaven in the restaurant bar area. It's very pretty. So happy to hear of your fun day antiquing in your hometown!

You are the 2nd person I have heard about entering the BH&G makeover. Gee, I just don't know which room needs one the most! :-)

    Have a great week!

  2. How fun! Shopping and lunch ......and I love your new/old books!

  3. What a fun day to spend with you Penny! Glad you found those books!

  4. Sounds like a lot of fun! It was a nicer day today, too...not so cold! Love the old books!

  5. Penny,

This day sounds like a whole lot of fun. So gland that you and Gretchen had fun! I'm also glad that you found the books you were looking for and that they were the colors you wanted!

Great shot of the red hat ladies. They always look they're having fun when they are out together.

I haven't been antiquing in a long time, and I think a trip is definitely in order.

Glad you had fun! NC is a fun place to shop!

    Sheila :-)

  6. Looks like another fun day! Lunch and shopping...two of our favorite things.

  7. That sounds like so much fun. what a great store. I'm glad you had fun with your blogging friend. Bloggers are just so sweet! Your books are great, the colors are pretty, I'm glad you found what you were looking for.

  8. Penny! You in the world are you?! Looks like you are pretty darned good by the photo's.
Nice picture of the Red Hat luncheon. I adore those hats they wear. I don't belong but I should. Perhaps I'll look into it. Have been invited but never did it. But......I want one of those red hats!!! Lets see, where would I wear it??

Books. My home would not be a home without them..or my grandfather clock and piano. How I dearly love taking care of a home.
May the road rise to meet you my friend.

  9. Hi Penny!
What a nice day! I find those kinds of days very relaxing!Great books, the colors are perfect.
Hope you are having a wonderful week~Tam :D

  10. What a great name for a store!! Glad you found some more books in such great colors (they really are so useful) and fun to look at.

  11. Penny I had to laugh when I read “I love the bar area’ but then I read on to see it was the mosaic that caught your eye …
What a fun day you had and I love the books.
When I go out to look for antique book, I always look for bookplates and odd titles.

  12. I just left Gretchen's blog; you are lucky to have each other to antique with! That bar is A-mazing! I like the name, because I always convince myself I am buying things I "need".

  13. Looks like you and Gretchen had an awesome day! How did I miss that store when I was in Hendersonville? So glad you found the books you wanted. ♥

  14. Hi Penny, I am so glad you found some books for your collection. Needful things sound like a wonderful place to shop. Your lunch sounds delightful as well.

I hope I am not wrong about this but I would love to be included in your give-a-way. If I am, silly me.

I am attempting to E-mail you about your tray. If I can't figure it out please E-mail me. Thanks. I am computer challenged even though I hate to admit it. Smile.

  15. Hi Penny! What a fun day you must have had! Oh, I love that place - well, I've not been there, but I know I would! Now about your books - they're so nice, but what I really like is that chickie figurine on top! That's the cutest little thing.
Thanks for popping in to see my groovy tablescape! ;)
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia :)

  16. I just have to come your way soon Penny - that shop looks great and the pretty cafe/bar is awesome - to think someone took time to mosaic an entire bar, wow! Perhaps you could travel the country doing something like that - ha! ha!

Love the books you found for your ever growing collection.

I met a lovely new friend for lunch yesterday also - she doesn't blog herself, but does sell antiques/vintage at a local place where she has a booth. She recognized me from my blog which she follows, at a grocery store at Christmas, and we planned a get-together! What friendly fun our blogs have brought to our lives!!!

Thank you so much for your kind comment today. I feel life is more special because of art and creativity. Everyone has some hidden away inside, they just need to let it surface and then embrace it for the joy it brings.

    Warm hugs - Mary.

  17. What a wonderful day you shared.

I am itching to look at the book you found on camellias. Does it have color illustrations?

  18. I just love those hens, I would have made room for them in my home, Margaret

  19. I love that you make time for your blogging friends. That bar was quite something, but not as darling as the work you do!

  20. My favorite kind of day. Lunch and shopping. What could be better? Mimi

  21. Looks like you had a wonderful day, Penny!

  22. Miss Penny,
Those books look so fun! I would love to curl up next to the fireplace and just garden dream away.

The favorite store mentioned is Walmart!!!! I think they just barely got these in!

Run to Walmart, Miss Penny, RUN.....

ps. they also have a cute red colander and cute red stock pots!

  23. Penny,
I'm so glad that y'all got to go shopping together in your hometown. That place looks like my kind of place. I'm sure that it has many things that I 'NEED' in there! Glad that you found some more gardening books!
